Beach Vacations

Yes, it's frickin' freezin' outside, but the bikinis in Target have me thinking about summer. For the last few years we've been talking about renting a beach house with family. Where's your favorite place to stay on the east coast?

I like the idea of Carova, but not everyone has 4WD.

I took my brand new 4WD out on Carova Beach and it sucked...My SUV, not the beach. If we had rented a home out there we would have been screwed.

Corolla Village is quaint and quiet. No large homes, though.

Corolla Light has all the amenities (great for families with children) and some large homes.

Pine Island has the huge mansions and Whalehead has some large homes, as well as being convenient to everything.

I love OBX and don't want a beach anywhere else.

We took a few day trips to Carova when we lived down there and we loved it. Although I'm content to just sit on the beach all day. I'm sure my MIL would like some window shopping opportunities. A big house is a must, since there will be about 10 of us going and we don't want to be cramped on vacation.

Pine Island. Duck is just down the road with lots of shopping.

Sanderling also has some large homes and is closer to Duck.

I want to go with you!

I like Myrtle Beach. There is plenty of shopping, entertainment, food, and fun! The only thing I don't like about it is the drive.

If you let the tire pressure down to about 10# you would have been ok, You still need more clearance for that kind of driving, though. Not to mention a shovel, a high lift jack and a couple of planks for traction.

I've never been to Myrtle Beach, but it sounds too commercial to me. Half of our group lives in GA, so they threw Myrtle Beach out there since it's closer to them. Not sure if I'm sold, though.
Topsail Island, NC.
I used to go there every summer in middle/high school with my friend and her family. I loved it there but hated the drive.

I guess that depends on where you stay. My family has a house in MB on a golf course... away from the "city." It's a nice vacation for us, and we don't have to venture into town if we don't want to. But the boardwalk and shopping is fun, so we have to spend a day or two doing that.

Sanibel Island is very nice. Marco Island has even more shells (maybe too many) and I remember Captiva Island being fantastic, maybe the best of them all. All in the same general vicinity on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Good to know! Like I said, I've never been before so I don't know the ins and outs. MIL/FIL take their RV there and stay right in the thick of things, which doesn't sound like my cup of tea. If we can find someplace relaxed and separated from all the hub-bub, I'd be on board.
