Beagle Puppy

What love is all about
So we bought a beagle puppy from a lady today. My husband did not notice until we were almost home that the one he had picked out has a lump on it's belly. From all accounts of what I have found online it looks like it may be an umbilical hernia. We are located in Lower St.Mary's County, does anyone know of a good vet that is either cheap or will work with people? We also want to get the puppys shots taken care of.

Have been going to Well Pet Clinic in Lexington Park for some time now, well for about thirteen years or so. Know the vet personally, very good. And I think they are pretty affordable.

Congratulations on the new addition! Walker H was right...the Well Pet Clinics are SO much cheaper than the regular Vet. Even the Flea & Heart Worm preventatives are a whole lot cheaper. If you are planning on having the Pup Spayed/Neutered..they can do that Hernia Surgery at the same time.
I loved my regular Vet, and after many years of going there, I stopped because of the high prices. It was really hard to leave a place that I reguarded as one of the finest to go. However..when I'd walk out of there being any where between $300., to $600, poorer, for routiene Yearly Exams, and Immunizations, verses going to the Well Pet Clinics having only paid a little over $100., it made it a lot easier to say Adios!! You DO get the very same care, and the Medications are not out of date, like one would think either. What did you name your Pup? Have fun with him/her, and keep us updated. :howdy:

I am sure the breeder had a health guarantee, and also completed the first couple series of shots. So have the puppy examined to determine what the lump is and contact the breeder on how she will reimburse you for any treatment it needs or give you a new puppy.
If it is not health certified I agree with Roman have it taken care of at the same time as neutering. Poor little guy! Good luck with the new family member I love the smell of puppy breath!

I was thinking we would probably go to the Well Pet Clinic, after posting this I googled vets in the area and they seem like the best bet. Her name is Princess!

Does my butt look big?
It will probably cost you more to fix then the price of the pup...if a female you can have it done at the same time as spaying and it will cost more...Most breeders health guarentees do not cover umbilical hurnias...some can out grow it some cause no problems some can...good luck

If it is an umbilical hernia, try rubbing the bump and see if it goes back in the opening. Bode had one when he was a puppy. We were going to have it fixed when he was neutered. The doc told us until then to massage the bump until it wouldn't go in anymore. After a couple of months it went back in on it's own.
