Because my dog...

Just isn't the smartest.

She has started trying to eat bumble bees. Now granted she hasn't come any where near close enough to eat one, but if she does....

Does she need a trip to the vet? Or do I fight with her to get the stinger out myself?

Most dogs go after bees....looks like fun to them. Keep Benadryl on hand in case she has a reaction (swelling or worse). If she's 50 lbs or so you can give her 50 mg. The dosage is 1 mg per pound.

Very cool. Thank you. I keep telling her to leave them alone. And telling her I wont take her to the vet, she just looks at me like "yeah ok mom".

Maybe.....just maybe, it will take being stung once or twice before puppy dog will think, "Hmmm, the last time I caught one of those IT REALLY HURT!"
(Like a lesson learned kinda thing; like "potty training.")

:lmao: Precious only did it once. She looked kinda cute with a big fat lip.
Yeah Petunia will look cute too. And then have to sit there, because she didn't listen to me.

She is funny to watch, because the bee will go by, and then she will snap for it like 10 seconds later. Poor dog.

Both of mine are going after the carpenter bees that buzz around our deck.

My mom's lab mix got into a hive of bees and was stung so many times on the top of her head, she looked like in a cartoon you see with lumps all over her head.

if she does get a bee... never use tweezers to get the stinger out! (you will squeeze more venom into them)

use a credit card or something to scrap the area in ONE direction several times. Flush with cool water afterwards

if more than that area starts to swell... such as eyes and muzzle... you should think about seeking vet attention .... if you did get Benadryl just let them know. There is another medication they can give IV to stop the reaction fast!

Ok good to know.

I am really hoping she never gets a hold of one. Because to be honest I am not sure she would be calm enough for me to get the stinger out.

My shepherd/ chow mix has been going after bumble bees as well as wasps. I'm kinda hoping for the lesson learned thing too, but my gut is telling me she would do it again.

Bad thing is we we r the one that will PAY for their lessons when we sit at the vet or er hospital!

All 4 of mine are going after them also!

There is nothing worse than a bee sting in the mouth... First of all you don't know if they swallowed it, if you will be able to look into your dogs mouth. They will drool, and foam a lot and panic.... Not to mention paw at their mouth! The mouth swells very fast and for some dogs .. Yes! They could be allergic to bees and then you worry about their throat swelling and their tounge swelling

I just contacted the receptionist at my vet to fax me the list of things my dog was allergic too. I'm not sure if they test for bees or not, but I know over the phone they said she wasn't allergic to roaches or feathers which I thought were kind of odd things to test for. Now I hope she's not allergic because she has already been a very expensive dog because of her allergies.

:huggy:.... I feel your pain ... I have a dog that is allergic to LIFE! ....

but no.. they dont test for bees... we get to find out the hard way! Just like people do. All dogs react different to stings.

That happened to Radar. The top of his head swelled up. Gave him a benadryl. It went from his head to one of his ears. He looked like dumbo. Gave him another and it was gone that evening.
