I took the boys to see this on a 2 to 1 vote over the Son of the Mask(Mask II). I decided not to vote, because it would have been a tie.
The reviews do not do this movie justice. I think on average, the movie was rated 2 – 2 ½ stars. The movie used a bit of humor to lighten up the dark theme in the film, but it could have used something to laugh about the last 30-minutes of the film.
The movie is rated PG, and my 5 year old sat thru a good majority of it but he did start to squirm the last ½ hour of the 106-minute film. The 8 and 9 year old seemed attentive to the story and enjoyed it. They asked a lot of questions once we got in the car.
I thought the movie was very good, but it is probably not a good movie to take a child that is under the age of 7.
Wayne Wang directed this movie, who, if anyone remembers, also directed "The Joy Luck Club."
