Beef Stew

Good day for it, so I made a crock pot beef stew. Wasn't sure I had all the right seasonings, so I got a package of McCormmicks beef stew seasoning for crock pots.

Mistake. That stuff is awful. Instead of savory and flavorful, it was dark, almost bitter. Ruined a perfectly good stew. Next time I'll know better.

Best part of the meal was a loaf of sesame bread from NY that I had frozen.

Oh! I hate when I experiment and end up ruining something that could have been delish... BTW, you bread probably would have been even better warmed up, but I'm glad you enjoyed gnawing on it anyway...:huggy:

 I found it in the freezer, but thawed it and toasted it before I ate it. Ok?

I may be a single guy, but I'm not totally inept....

I made this, but with kale instead of collards. I'm happy for a while.

Next time you make this, dredge the beef in flour seasoned with coarse ground pepper, add potatoes, carrots, & maybe some frozen mixed veggies and then top it all off with a mix of one can of Golden mushroom soup mixed with one envelope of Lipton's beefy onion soup mix. Beef stew to die for!

 Awww. :huggy:

Whoops - I hate when experiments go awry, too. We didn't have anything special today, because we were to & fro with HS activities all day. Tomorrow, I'm making chili - the first of the season! :yahoo:

Bummer, I've also bought some of those packaged "solutions" before and had the same outcome. :barf: Next one will be much better, I say. :yay:

Tomorrow I'm doing a crock pot roast that has similar ingredients as yours. Dredged in flour and seared/seasoned, adding carrots around halfway through the slow cook with a can of condensed mushroom soup. Also going to rehydrate some dried wild mushrooms and get those in the mix as well.

I have that onion soup mix and thought of maybe putting that in, but I'm thinking to use sliced onions instead. Or maybe both?

You know, when I make a pot roast in the skillet, that pretty much what I do. I braise the meat, add the veggies, a packet of Lipton soup mix and water, and let it simmer for hours. Always comes out good. I should have used the soup mix for the stew too, just didn't think of it. :ohwell:

It's kinda expensive just to put in a stew; but have you tried flank steak?
Season it, sear it and cut it up into chunks; then add veggies or whatever and let it slow cook on the stove or in a crock pot all day.

Will try this recipe again with kale someday in the near future, and I'm sure it will be delicious. Looking at that pic again, I remembered that taste. :yum:

When I made the pot roast, I took a pic. Wish I featured the meat a little more, instead the focus is on the wild mushrooms, onions, noodles, and gravy. But that works for me, too. And really good.
