Before & After Family Room

But wait, there's more...
Before this weekend's renovation ...

The first pic is from last fall. I then moved the leather sofa into the family room after the floors were redone with the plan of redoing the rest of the room once I had an idea for what would/wouldn't work with the new floors.

And after .... much cozier and warmer.

There's still a little trim to touch-up with paint, but it'll wait till next weekend.

I love the fireplace. Good job.

The fireplace is actually two mantles -- my existing mantle, and another one we found that is almost identical to mine. We chopped off about 14 inches from each side, stacked it up on top of the existing mantle, and just painted them both. It definately adds that old-home feel (that I love) to the room, as well as adds a lot of height to the room that wasn't there before.

We also texturized the walls which is hard to see in the above pics, but is kind of better to see in this one. Also, the lines you see in the walls are actually upholstery beading that we ran at intervals around the room ... again, giving it a lot of height.

Overall, I'm very pleased! I might have to go back and blend the wall texture a bit in some spots, but the warm feel in there is exactly what I wanted.

You have beautiful taste! The room looks awesome!

Thanks, but I can't take all the credit. My neighbor's ghey friend had quite a hand in helping me carve out the look I wanted and making it work. If you don't have a ghey guy friend, I highly recommend getting one. :yay: :phaghag:

Thanks folks. Any suggestions on new window coverings? I'm thinking of pulling the red from the table into some roman shades, but worry that it might be a LOT of red that close together on the wall. :ohwell:

I think it would look great with a dark shade of red....

Everytime I look at these pictures, I am inspired to completely renovate a room in my house! The only thing is, with my kids being so small, they'd try to pick those beads off the wall and have their handprints all over it!! My couch is almost exactly like the one you have, and well, we got it so it could be wiped off easily! I am SO glad to have leather as opposed to an upholstered couch.

AHHHHH.....ONE DAY!!

The room really does look fabulous!
