Our Texas leg of our summer trip will be spent on the banks of Belton Lake. The lake is part of the Army MWR program managed by Ft. Hood. The lake is roughly 2,000 acres. It allows motorized boats and has several boat ramps & a marina. Paddle boats, canoes and kayaks are available for rent. The park has the usual resort facilities like basketball, volleyball, playground and softball fields. Other unique things to do are horseback riding, beach, fishing pier, snack bar, paintball field and there is a mountain bike trail.

Our accommodations will be 1 of the 15 rental cottages. The cottages are furnished with linens, kitchenware, fridge, A/C, TV plus a screened porch with a grill. We plan on bringing 2 folding chairs along with a cooler. This should be a fun place to host family and our legendary game nights.

From the description it sounds very similar to the Navy rec center over on Solomons. We are finding that the military has a bunch of rec center around the country that are very reasonably priced. The military sights seem to be a bit better kept than many similar priced destinations. The fact that they hold people accountable may have something to do with that.

Just a few more months and we'll there.
