Best hair salons around here?

I want to get my hair cut and styled for the first time in over a decade, (I've only ever had regular trims before) but there are haircut places every 10 feet around here, and I don't even know where to start!

My hair is waist length and cutting it is a big deal for me, so I want to make sure it's someone who REALLY knows what they're doing. :)

I lovee, love hair it is! It is a beautiful redken salon, and I have never had a bad cut/color in the 10 or so years I have been going there..

Hair In the Square

I go to Crystal personally, but know many people who love Julie. Either way, reasonable prices, laid back atmosphere and people who really know what they are doing.

I went to Crystal after not getting my hair cut for several years, and now I continue to go to her with regular appointments because I was so pleased with both her and her concern over cutting my long hair, and with the outcome of cutting my hair into a style that was me, not just something wild and crazy.

Also, if your hair's really long and you are going shorter, consider donating for Locks Of Love. If you let whomever does cut your hair know that you are doing that, they will tie your hair in a pony tail prior to cutting and hand it to you for your donation. I go to Amanda at Halo Salon in La Plata. Her number is 301-392-9099. She does a fantastic job with color/highlights as well.

Ah, sorry. I would have gone with 'Southern MD in general' (I'll drive a bit for a good place) but more specifically, around the Navy base?

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll check em out.

Hair in the Square is about a mile outside of gate 2 on Great Mills Road (it's right behind Autozone). My wife gets her hair done here as well. I got a haircut from Tracy. Walked in and was out in about 10-15 minutes. Don't remember what I paid but it wasn't much...

I love the Hair Company in Leonardtown. They charge a bit more but it is SO worth getting my hair done right and having them listen to what I want and am concerned about. They offer specials for new customers oftentimes and really treat you well. I think their website is Home

Definitely donate if you cut it all off!!

Took the words right out of my mouth....some salons don't send the hair in anymore, you have to do it yourself....you have to make sure that they braid it before they cut it....I bring a plastic baggie with me when girl donates hers(she's done it twice now) so that all I have to do is drop it in an envelope and mail it

Locks of Love helps disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss

and Brenda at Platinium Spa is who I recommend....it's on Chancellors Run Rd.

I see Dina at Hair It Is in Lexington Park. She's been doing my hair for a couple years (cuts and colors) and she's always done a fantastic job. I'm not especially particular about my hair (meaning I'm not the type to walk in with pictures and detailed descriptions) but I usually just let her do what she thinks will look best with my face and hair type. She always explains what she's going to do in advance and we work together to tweak whatever she comes up with.
