Bicycling time/distance question

Jeff

Stop Staring!!!!!
I have a young lady who is looking to rent a room from me for about a year. She is from out of the area and is an avid bicycle rider. She has Volunteered with AMERICORPS and is coming to work in our area at Greenwell State Park.

We live on Town Creek Drive about 1 mile in.

She asked how long it would take her to get there via bike but I am not a bicyclist and told her probably a good 15 minutes via a car.

Are there any bicyclists here who could give me a better idea of how long it would take her on a bike to travel this distance. She is coming from New York and I don't want her to get here and get discouraged.

Thanks.

That's about 10 miles... I'd estimate 40 minutes for a lady cyclist (or anyone averaging 15 mph).

She is 18 so I am sure she can make good time when she wants to. Thanks for you help. I am 41 and smoke cigars. That would be an all day trip for me. :killingme

I sent her the link for this thread as well as some other local links, she may chime in here before all is said and done.

Let her know there is no shoulder after turning off 235. Riding a bike on 245 could be a dangerous proposition.

Ouch. Thanks thats a good put there. She has a link to this thread and I recommended to her to to check out this forum in general so she might be able to develope some contacts her age in the area with similar interests. If she does not chime in here before the weekend is out I will email her your input. Good thinking and something I would not have thought to point out.

I cant remember if there is any sort of shoulder on Mervelle Dean Road But I bet that would be a better alternative to traveling up 235 and it runs basically parrallel with 235 anyway up to where she would turn to Greenwell I think. So I 'think' she would have what, 2/3 of a mile or a mile of traveling north on 235 from 4 & 235 to Mervelle Dean Road.

At least she will know this in advance.. Thanks

Hmm...

It would depend on how her speed is, what type of bike she has, and how strong she is. It is about 10 miles, but you are dealing with traffic on 245 where there is no shoulder at all. Will she be going during busy traffic times, or off traffic?

I wish her luck with it!

I dunno about those things. But from speaking to her over the phone she struck me as being a very energetic/enthusiastic young lady so I would not be surprised to see her peddling past me in my truck one of these days. :killingme .

I think at this point she is checking my references out and I'll likely not hear from here until all that is done.
