Bill Gates is the smartest guy in the room, nay, on the planet, and he wants everybody, from the White House to the medical community to John Q. Citizen in Anytown, U.S.A., to know it.

How else to explain his feigned incredulity on CNN of America’s coronavirus test process to that of other nations? Let’s remember: Gates is a computer guy. He’s not actually a medical expert.

This is what he said when asked by CNN host Fareed Zakaria to explain America’s handling of the pandemic, as Mediaite noted: “I wouldn’t have predicted that we would do so poorly.”

And this: “[There was a] variety of missteps by the U.S. and then the political atmosphere [that] meant that we didn’t get our testing going,” and as a result, America is “paying a pretty dramatic price.”

And this: “It’s mind-blowing … you can’t get the federal government to improve the testing, because they just want to say how great it is — you know, I’ve said to them, look, have a CDC website that prioritizes who gets tested. That’s trivial to do. They won’t pay attention to that.”

That dang President Donald Trump — he acts like he’s president or something. The gall!

Bill Gates has come a very long way from being a young nerd with a brilliant idea. Now he's let that go to his head and he thinks he's the experet on everything. And we're supposed to listen to him for some reason.

All the biggest reasons you have claimed support Trump being qualified, Billy G has more of. If Trump is a successful businessman, then Gates is moreso. If Trump can be trusted because he has the money to hire experts, then the same goes for Gates.

Believe it or not, Gates was never that great of a developer. He didn't write any pioneering OS kernel code (like Linus), or develope slicker/faster routines for doing things, etc. He is a household name because for many decades he was a ruthless businessman.

So where Trump has "people" to help him with political policy (unfortunately, a good number of those people are just marginally qualified family members), Gates has "people" to help him understand issues related to his philanthropy. And since 2000 that philanthropy has primarily been related to treating disease.

So he is at least as qualified to talk about disease and the ways we are handling it as your average politician. Probably better than most.

Emphasis on ruthless - choking competition, ripping off ideas (or outright STEALING them).

He had a basic idea that worked brilliantly - sell an OS cheap and license it.
Have it work on a cheap machine that can be cobbled together with cheap parts.
But behind the curtain of every innovative MS product is - someone else's name.

Honestly, when was the last time MS came up with something really different?
How often have they arrived late to the game only to find that THEIR product - sucks in comparison?

to license windows ... a builder paid a license for ANY PC built wither it came with windows or not

so why wouldn't every PC have windows

and crushing the competition ........

In 2002, Be Inc. sued Microsoft claiming that Hitachi had been dissuaded from selling PCs loaded with BeOS, and that Compaq had been pressured not to market an Internet appliance in partnership with Be. Be also claimed that Microsoft acted to artificially depress Be Inc.'s initial public offering (IPO).[16] The case was eventually settled out of court for $23.25 million with no admission of liability on Microsoft's part.[17]
