Bird Identification

So pup #2 found a dead bird the other day when I took her out. She was nosing around in the leaves and came up with a rather large (as far as local birds are concerned) red feathered bird. I'd of thought it was a Cardinal but when I picked it up to dispose of it I noticed it had a rather curved beak. Almost parrot like without being as big. Same shape though. Definately not long and narrow like most birds around here I've seen. I'm thinking it may have been someone's pet that got out and couldn't stand the cold? Are there any local birds with curved beaks?

I'm not aware of any parrot's that are completely red.

It was a rusty red color. Blended very well with the leaves on the groud. About the size of a crow; maybe a little smaller. The beak was orangey but not particularly bright.

I'm sure it's still in the bag in the outside trash can you are more then welcome to come see it. Getting it away from the pup and into the bag was enough for me. :lmao:

It didn't happen to have a band on one of it's legs did it ? Most of the larger exotic bird sold legally in the states are banded.

No - this doesn't apply to the erotic - Red-headed double breasted bed thrasher either.

No, no band. I'm on the site Barb posted seeing if I can find it. It may be some sort of small hawk though the beak looked very parrot-like, like a lovesbird's or parakeet's only bigger.

Do you live near Calvert Cliffs? Does the bird glow?
