Birth Control Pills

I have, in the past, taken extra pills at the end of the pack to hold off the gastly monthly visitor a few more days - only in cases when it would be extremely inconvenient to have it on normal schedule. I have done this on several occasions over the years, and it works perfectly.

My question is... has anyone ever reversed this little trick, and stopped taking the pills a few days early in order to speed up the gastly monthly visitor, and get it over with BEFORE a scheduled event?

I wonder if this would work, or if it would compromise your "no-more-babies" protection.

I wouldn't risk it. There are a few birth control methods out there that stop the flow completely.

I don't want to stop it completely, just get it over with early this one time. I'm going camping next weekend and there is no running water. Bad weekend to have it. I took one yesterday, but I think I'm going to chuck the rest of the pack. I'll only be stopping a few days early. Hopefully I won't be posting a pregnancy announcement next month. :faint:

You'd be better off taking two consecutive months with no break than stopping early - just a suggestion.

Call your doctor - and/or buy cleansing wipes and sealable bags. <~~ Might wanna do that anyway, not having water, AND FDS! :cheesy:

Or, stay home.

If you're q'urious about what will happen, go right ahead and stop the bc.

Seriously, when I was PLANNING to have a kid, I stopped my pills early in the cycle, I got sick, pregnant immediately, miscarried and immediately got pregnant again.

Don't do it.

I would rather have taken extras and put it off for a week, but the insurance companies won't let you get away with that anymore. You can't refill until you are due for more. They check the dates. :tantrum

I could make do out there in the woods, but it would not be fun.

Especially when you're :buddies:

OK... I reeeeally don't want to get pregnant.
I'm going to do steal from my next pack and hold it off for a week.
Best not to take chances with something that serious.

When I was on the pill, if I forgot to take them for two days, I would start, but I would still also have my normal period.

I wouldn't risk chucking the pack. You may end up having your flo for the entire time anyway.

Buy some wet wipes or something if there is no running water.

I can't believe no one mentioned this....if you're going to stop taking pills a week early, just use condoms. I personally wouldn't eff around with my cycle that much...but if you are going to do it anyways, better to be safe than sorry.

Do what many female gynecologists do... Never stop taking the pill! Run 21 day cycles into each other (scrapping the 7 day sugar pills) and never have a period. There is no scientific reason to have a period, and in fact, research has recently suggested that not having a period can improve chances at avoiding ovarian cancer.

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on somd.com, so please research this more.

Yikes! I forgot to mention that only monophasic pills should be used this way. Triphasils may cause problems.

Maybe your insurance company, but not mine. I did this a few months ago, due to some issues I was having and doc told me to take them back to back for 3 months. My insurance company never questioned it.

I agree! I've never had to skip or "move" my period to another week, but I had to, I follow tiki's advice.

Baby wipes are awesome for camping excursions where there are limited "facilities" for full body cleansing. :yay:

I dont think her concern while shes there is getting pregnant, I think shes mroe concerned with bleeding in the woods with no running water. Shes trying to move her period by a couple of days as to avoid that.
