Birthright citizenship

The Supremes will begin hearing arguments this week.

It's pretty obvious that birthright citizenship was meant for people who intend to live in the US as permanent residents and be Americans. The 14A was ratified to ensure former slaves would have citizenship, reversing Dred Scott. It doesn't mean that people can come here illegally, have a baby, and *they* are now American citizens - they can take the kid with them when they're deported or they can rehome it here, their choice.

The focus will likely be what "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" means and it will be months at least before there's a ruling.

The Democrats are all "But we've always done it this way :bawl: " but Supreme Court decisions get overturned and/or clarified all the time. SCOTUS has been kicking this can down the road for like 150 years, and now it's time for them the sht or git. You'd think KBJ would be in favor of sticking to the original intent of the14A, but she doesn't have the brain power to make her own decisions; she'll do what her handlers tell her to do. ACB is a weenie who, sadly, is also out of her league and doesn't seem to understand constitutional law.

I'm liking Trump taking on all these issues that the feckless politicians have left to fester. He has a mere 4 years to right the ship and he seems to be not wasting any time.

2 illegal invaders can't spawn an American citizen.

This is 1 of the biggest attractant to illegals. Remove this and you remove a huge incentive.

Or at least enforce the law and even if their baby is born in the US, they still have to go back.

It always annoys me when shitbags take advantage of someone's kindness, whether it's a big act or a small one. As you say often, no good deed goes unpunished. We open our arms to the downtrodden from other countries, offering them safety, freedom, and prosperity, and this is how they repay us.

Brown is so stupid that the other dummies who used to vote with her are too embarrassed to keep doing it.

The right for a child to be born here and become a citizen use to be so different from what it is now. It used to be that the parents had an intention to become American, but now with Chinese using an island just off Guam to have their children born American it has become a serious problem. Bad enough we had some mothers sneaking over from Mexico who had good intentions for their children, but WHAT is the Chinese intention. We know the Chinese do not allow their people to just wander off to an American territory to give birth without their knowledge.

If my children were to born in the same towns as their ancestors who emigrated here, would not be citizens of those countries.

I don't think that's completely true; it varies by country. I have several friends that have dual citizenship based on their actual place of birth and their parents U. S. citizenship.

Case in point, my first cousin and her three children. Her dad, my uncle, is American and she was born in Denmark. She and her kids all have dual citizenship. We will be having another reunion this summer in Montana.

Ireland, United Kingdom, and Germany do not have automatic birthright citizenship.

What about Melania? And her parents?

Isn't Barron an anchor baby?
Melania is a US Citizen...Unlike your illegal buddies, she did it THE RIGHT WAY...
Her parents came in the wrong way, through chain migration...and Trump HATES that they are now US Citizens...so you should be good with them here. They did it YOUR preferred way... They cheated. Happy now??

No, Barron ISN'T an anchor baby, but only people with an IQ above 60 know this. Anyone that doesn't know this or aren't able to comprehend this are below average retarded...Sorry about your luck there, lil window licker...good luck tying your Crocs. I hope someone is there to spoon feed you. Your posts clearly show you're incapable of accomplishing anything meaningful in life & unfortunately, you are society's burden to bear & take care of...

Instead of constantly bitching, complaining, & Lying thru your crusty teeth, why can't you just say thank you & appreciate all we do for you & your SNAP/TANF lifestyle??

Ok. Not trying to argue w/you. Just stating that in some countries if you are born on their soil; you are considered a citizen of their country.

I remember this question being raised about 20 years ago...why did people have a problem with Mexican anchor babies & not Chinese anchor babies? The answer came quick and the subject was dropped just as quick....the Chinese return home with their babies!!!...and now we know why the subject was dropped so quickly...

and Putin made a comment about 12 years ago about how he wished Russia was as cunning as China, but never explained what he meant by that statement...so, to answer your question, which I'm guessing was rhetorical...

They are born on US soil.
Then they go back to China & are raised in Communist China as good little Commies...
And now, since they have dual citizenship...Communist China can invade the US with dual citizen Chinese Commies...legally...

Honestly, it really is quite brilliant

Its a mixed bag on which countries rely upon jus soli (right of the soil) or jus sanguinis (right of blood) or some hybrid means using a little of both.

I don't think dual citizenship should be allowed. You can't serve two masters.
Some countries will consider you a citizen if your parent is a citizen but you lose it if you do not spend a time in the mother country. Read years ago a US citizen born abroad but do not come to live in the US for a certain amount of time can not pass off US citizenship to their children.
