Why do I keep getting a blank page that won't go away?

When does it happen? What browser are you using? Can you view Google fine? If one website works, and another doesn't, it's most likely that website. If no website shows up, try clearing your history and cache.

It happens on and off... I use the newest Internet Explorer [which I hate] and it's completely blank. the only way to get rid of it is pulling up the task manager...

Still doesn't explain the blank page... it came up before I signed on to the Internet Explorer this time... is it a Vista thing?

It's not Vista, it happens on XP to. It could be your connection. The next time it happens, try power-cycling your modem (if your on a cable modem) by unplugging it for 30 seconds. You might be getting a bottleneck in your modem.

In My Opinion
if you hate it then try something else. Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client for instance.
I had to stop using firefox for forums after their last automatic update that the finally snuck in on me.
since that update, When I respond to a post I no longer get the flashing curser thingy where my type is going to be, I cant delete what I write, cant cut and past and the spell check went away. (thats obvious I would assume)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

I had a similar issue when I moved to FF3. did you try to remove all addons? also are you using the blue or tan forum skin? once I removed the addons and switched to tan I was fine. I'm not sure which fixed it, but I was able to reinstall the addons.

IE7.0, or the brand new 8.0 that's only in Beta testing? If you're in 8.0, you're #### out of luck because you can't downgrade (but when they get the bugs out, you'll be able to get the latest version). If it's 7.0, it's not an IE thing nor a Vista thing...it's something with your computer. I have no issues with mine.

So...firefox would probably be recommended. Chrome is nice, but I think it's still lacking some of the add ons needed to be fully functional.

I do have 8.0 so I'll be waiting for the debugs.... I'll never allow a beta again. When Comcast.net came out I opened the beta email file... it took months to get it back to normal...

I changed the blue field on somd.com... looks odd but if it'll help I'll deal with it...

I'll give them a month or so to catch up... not familiar with foxfire or mozilla so I want to hold off a while longer....

thanks

:yeahthat:

IE 8 blows... you can uninstall IE8 - IE8 is an update, not a "full program" so it must be uninstalled as an update, try this;

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

IE 7, no problem... I even downloaded the IE7Pro update and it works great, very stable.

Firefox, not a fan... it's OK. Some sporadic incompatibility as it seems everyone (well, almost everyone) develops towards MS/IE.

Chrome, to early to tell but it is very lightweight.

I use K-Meleon and Opera. Opera is a heavyweight browser, more features than Firefox imho. K-Meleon is designed for people that just want something fast. If I'm doing web development, I'm usually on Opera. Other than that, I'm on K-Meleon.

IE8 has a little widget icon next to the address field that allows you to modify a web page for "compatibility". Yep, I know it's stupid, but I have run into the same problem myself a couple of times. Once you click on the widget with a blank page showing, it will usually allow the page to be displayed and remembers that it should be accepted as a compatible page from then on.
