blu-ray taking over

vanbells

Pookieboo!!!
Paramount is jumping back to Blu-Ray. New Line Cinema and HBO just annouced that they are exclusive to Blu-Ray and CES 2008 has seen numerous manufacturers making Blu-Ray players now.

I just want to see Transformers on Blu Ray!!!

You can actually record HD on a standard DVD. The problem is data density. A full length movie in HD will not fit on a standard DVD. A short HD movie might fit on a dual layer DVD. If you don't mind a short intermission while you change disks, you can just record to multiple DVDs.

Sure you can record it, but it won't be true HD. A DVD player will not play HD. Most people will not even notice though if they have a TV or DVD player that upconverts.

Ive actually noticed that DVD's I watch on my laptop are much clearer than ones I watch through my TV and DVD player.

2nd A Actually a standard DVD can't play HD because the standard DVD player does not put out anything but 480i.

I really doubt either hd-dvd or blueray will be taking over any time soon. Besides the price of the players and the need of a high definition tv, they are also both closed proprietary formats. Meaning you have to pay a royalty fee to publish something on them. Many 3rd party publishers will be hesitant to pay some big company to put their content on hd when they can put it on regular dvd for nothing. Also, sony and microsft/toshiba are both moral censors when it comes to what content they will allow to be published in their proprietary formats. Which means they will block anything with too much sex, violence, or whatever if they don't like it. Both have already stated that no porn will be published using their technology.

I personnally dont want to have another bunch of wack jobs telling me what I am allowed to watch. We have enough of that with the government.
