So there's this spot of blue fuzz on my bagel. It's about half the size of a dime. The rest of the bagel is pristine.

Ordinarily, I'd chuck it without thinking twice. However, that bagel represents the last morsel of food it is humanly possible for me to have - without stealing - until about 6:00 tonight. I'm at work in a God-forsaken hell-hole with no nearby stores and no vehicle.

So, my question is this: should I cut the blob of mold off and eat the bagel, or is the blue mold concentrated evil that has contaminated the entire thing?

Have you got some kind of phobia against pennicillin? Eat it, then go eat someone else's lunch and tell them it's survival of the fittest.

So Tox, what's up with this poor planning where you show up for a long isolated day of work with only a moldy bagel for sustenance? Didn't Mommy pack you a lunch?

Perfectly acceptable to pinch the spot. However, if you bite into it and taste any mold, you may want to ditch it.

And plan better next time.

No mommy didn't. :/

I grabbed some food on my way out the door. I didn't notice the splotch of blue on my lunch until I was half-way through my breakfast. By then it was too late.

What's this with a plan all of a sudden?

I planned last night what I was eating today. I grabbed everything I made note of last night. At 1800 last night, the bagel looked fine.

Since you have no other food, I'd remove the mold and eat it

Can you put the mold in a jar and culture it? Just for fun?

NAH!! Cut the offending color out of the bagel; pitch that; and eat the bagel. Not that THIS applies; but you can do the same thing with applez and nannerz.

As long as you are a remotely healthy individual without any serious immune deficiencies, you'll be fine if you ate the mold. Worst case, a good, gut-cleansing bout of diarrhea but you'll still be ok.
