The Board of Education presented four resolutions to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff at its April 9 meeting. The Board presents resolutions annually. The following resolutions were presented:
CCPS highlights Administrative Professionals Week this year as April 22-26. The recognition emphasizes the supportive role administrative professionals have in the workplace, and the importance of their contributions in maintaining effective office operations. Administrative Professionals Week highlights the wealth of knowledge, clerical duties, awareness of procedures, competency and customer service skills professionals demonstrate daily. Accepting the resolution at the meeting were several principal secretaries including Angela McDonald from Indian Head Elementary School, Susan Pond from John Hanson Middle School, Carol Jewell from North Point High School and Sandy Rooney, Robert D. Stethem Educational Center. Board of Education Chairman Virginia McGraw presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
CCPS recognizes Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week this year as May 6-10. Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week celebrates the contributions of food and nutrition service workers and their supportive role to the school system, students and staff. During the past school year, food and nutrition service staff have served more than 2.4 million lunches and 1.8 million breakfasts to students. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting was William Kreuter and Crystal Richardson, CCPS food and nutrition services supervisors. Board of Education Member Tajala Battle-Lockhart presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
National Physical Education and Sport Week is recognized annually by CCPS. This year, CCPS recognizes the week of May 6-10 as National Physical Education and Sport Week to highlight the importance of physical education and sports in the development of growing children. National Physical Education and Sport Week highlights the positive impact physical education has on students, such as improving overall health, increasing mental alertness and contributing to a positive self-image. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were CCPS physical education teachers Brittany Aley of Benjamin Stoddert Middle School and Kristin Jones of Mattawoman Middle School. Board of Education Member David Hancock presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
CCPS highlights Teacher Appreciation Week annually and recognizes National Teacher Appreciation Day this year on Tuesday, May 7. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10 and highlights the contributions of teachers in the lives of children, as well as their positive impact within school communities. Teacher Appreciation Week focuses on essential skills teachers have to support the smooth operation of a classroom, such as encouraging family learning and parental involvement, serving as a positive role model for children and demonstrating a commitment to student success. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were CCPS teachers including Niyati Green, English teacher, Thomas Stone High School; Ki’Tira Shorter, first-grade teacher, Berry Elementary School; Tanya Munford, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program teacher, Stone; and April Westgard, special education teacher, Berry. Board of Education Member Elizabeth Brown presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
