Charles Co. Board of Education presents resolutions at its Oct. 13 meeting

The Board of Education at its Oct. 13 meeting presented two resolutions to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students and staff. The following resolutions are presented annually:

  • American Education Week; and
  • American Freedom Week.

CCPS recognizes American Education Week as Nov. 16-20. American Education Week highlights public education and honors those who make a difference to ensure children receive a quality education. American Education Week is sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) and held annually the third week of November. Schools promote instructional activities among students to promote the importance of education and public schools. Ian Herd, student member to the Board of Education, and Eric Valentine, student liaison at La Plata High School, accepted the resolution from Board members.

CCPS highlights American Freedom Week annually in November. This year, CCPS recognizes American Freedom Week as Nov. 9-13. American Freedom Week activities promote and educate students about the importance of American history, those who serve the U.S. and symbols of American freedom. During American Freedom Week, schools promote activities that honor the flag, the U.S. and patriotism. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting was JROTC instructor Gunnery Sgt. Clive Bailey of La Plata High School. Board of Education Vice Chairperson Latina Wilson presented to resolution to Bailey on behalf of the Board.

The Oct. 13 recognition ceremony was not open to the public due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines in place. The complete meeting is posted here on the CCPS YouTube page.
