The Board of Education presented two resolutions to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students and staff at its March 12 meeting. The Board votes annually to accept resolutions. The following resolutions were presented:
CCPS celebrates the Month of the Young Child annually in April. This year’s national theme is Celebrating Our Youngest Learners, which recognizes early learners, and that all children should enter school well prepared and ready to learn. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were J.P. Ryon Elementary School prekindergarten teacher Jaimee Post, prekindergarten student Christian Burrell, kindergarten teacher Jennifer Hume, kindergarten student Brianna Chetry and Mackenzie Claasen, a toddler playgroup participant. Board Member David Hancock presented the resolution.
CCPS recognizes National Student Leadership Week in 2019 as April 21-27. National Student Leadership Week honors students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills by participating in academic, community and co-curricular activities. These activities include student government, academic and fine arts clubs, athletics, vocational clubs and other organized events. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were several student liaisons including Student Board Member Krisha Patel from Westlake High School; Christine Walker from Henry E. Lackey High School; Hannah Piazza from La Plata High School; Alexis Lepe from North Point High School; France Tomgambo-Kaye from Thomas Stone High School; and Brianna Wilson from Westlake High School. Board Member Michael Lukas presented the resolution.
