Board of Public Works approves funding for improvements to water system
BALTIMORE (Oct. 12, 2022) – The Maryland Board of Public Works in Annapolis approved funding of more than half a million dollars today for improvements to a water distribution system in Frederick County. The board is composed of Governor Larry Hogan, Treasurer Dereck E. Davis and Comptroller Peter Franchot. Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford chaired today’s meeting.
“This is a smart investment that will ensure that residents of the Town of Thurmont continue to receive a safe and sustainable supply of water for drinking and other purposes,” said Maryland Environment Secretary Horacio Tablada.
The following project was approved today:
Old Pryor Road Water Line Rehabilitation project – Frederick County
A $513,207 Drinking Water Revolving Fund loan to the Town of Thurmont will help fund the Old Pryor Road Water Line Rehabilitation project. The project entails the replacement of the existing water main with a new main and other improvements to the water system. The area along Old Pryor Road has experienced water service concerns for several years, including reduction of water flow when multiple systems operate simultaneously. The proposed project will remediate the reduction of water flow in the area. This project will be constructed in accordance with coastal and non-coastal resiliency guidelines developed as part of the Coast Smart Program to reduce climate change risks to such projects.
