Charter Boat capsized, Co. 4 called for help in rscue and recovery ops due to water conditions. Several other charter boats in the area responded. My uncle was one of the first arrivals and pulled out 4 people one of them being the CPR patient.

I'm getting this secondhand from my mom and just found out. I know the captain of the capsized vessel but will not divulge that info pending the circumstances.

I know who it is as well. Prayers for all the patients

Pic of the boat. I wouldn't go in the bay in my 30 foot boat in 3-5' seas let alone a 23'.

Not sure why someone would want to go out when it's bad like that.

The article was updated, gives the names of the victims. So sad.

The ramp in Piney Point was jammed when I drove by at 0800 yesterday morning and the river was already covered with small boats. There were a LOT of people out on the water in small boats yesterday.

There were also plenty of places to fish in the lee of a shoreline or with very short fetch where the waves were not large. But there were obviously areas where it was rough too.

I am not a *boat* person but was the size of the craft and the amount of people aboard also an issue?

Not a good beginning to the fishing season.

Yes X 3.

When I hear a captain of a 48' charter boat say it was ugly, I tend to believe him. Ain't no damned fish worth going out in the mess that was Saturday morning.

Is it still 3-5' in this picture, because it just doesn't appear to be rough at all in it.
Oh no. That's calm. 3-5' bay waves are HUGE to a 23' center console.

Like Kom said...yes.

6 people is a lot on a 23' boat even though the craft was likely rated for up to 7.

You don't have enough money to get me out on a 23 footer in those seas by myself let alone with 5 others.

Well, I was thinking first day of fishing season.. first day they had their boat out this year.. They forgot to do something, to put something back in the boat... as long as they were moving they were somewhat OK, but once they stopped to fish the water REALLY started coming in the boat.

This isn't uncommon is it? Just one of those things that most people catch when they first put the boat in, but could go un noticed until it's too late?
