Boat trailer irritation

So I am towing my boat down to NC next week so I decided to take the wheels off and have them balanced because I get a vibe about 55-60mph.

So I take off one side and take them down and get them done and come back and decided the studs and lug nuts are corroded so I will change them.

This is where things go wrong.

I pound out the old ones no problem, take one and head to the parts store. Nope, nope nope. So I end up having to order them from NAPA. The first ones go in REALLY hard. End up using an impact wrench. Air compressor too small, break the hose......new air compressor, new long hose. Finally get them done.

So I tow the boat to the gas station to fill it up. Get home and discover the brake on one side seized, overheated the hub and spewed grease. Take the caliper off and sure enough it is seized tight. Flatten the brake line because I have to in order for brake fluid to not shoot out and use the trailer with one brake off.

Order new brake calipers, pads and get new brake lines. Start reassembling all this crap and install the bracket, the pads, the calipers and go to hook up the brake lines...............the damn port on the new calipers is a different size.

So now I am out looking for new banjo bolts.

I hate it when sheet goes like that. Look on the bright side, sounds like you have the knowledge to take care of things yourself.

I am well versed in the manly arts.

I am just tired of trip after trip to the parts stores. Crawling around under the trailer sweating my ass off every day.

Did you go over to Sunoco like I told you when this all started or did you just shrug me off like you normally do(and then I get to tell you "I told you so") to see about your parts?

The owner knows of several boat guys that may be able to help with your parts needs

Or....you could try the Napa in Clements....they usually have everything that no one else does

I found the parts at NAPA. The brakes on the trailer are from a 97-2000 Kia Sephia. How hard is that? Evidently harder than it looks.

I would still try Sunoco....that girl at the back desk, that usually has a phone hanging out her ear, can find any part for a vehicle

oh....and the Napa in Clements is completely different than any other Napa on the planet....trust me on this one

Will never forget back when i was single Had a roomate at my house, had a relativaley brand new Boston Whaler Montauk 17'6". We came up with the great idea to head to the keys to fish, camp and party for a couple weeks.
I came home from work that day we were leaving and as we were packing up the truck and the boat he informed me that since we were going so far down to the keys he had repacked the trailer bearings with grease. I was like ok that is a good idea, i guess. We left Rose Haven in the early evening and didn't make it as far as Wayson Corner and both axles on the boat trailer were smoking so bad you could not see the anything behind you. Great start, a day delay for the rebuild and went to the Keys and had a great time and got back safely
