I read an article a long while back that said a lot of police agencies are giving up the 10 codes and just speaking normally. Wish I could remember where I read it, but I'm sure a google search will find it.

And if you drive a Penske truck, you are gonna be stopped for no good reason. Remember the days of stopping white box trucks during the days of the DC sniper when they were actually driving a Chevy Caprice. The hours that were wasted by police fielding phone calls and making traffic stops on unsuspecting bread/cookie/chip delivery trucks was unbelievable.

Gather the family and put on a movie... ignore it for now. Nothing is going to change except the facts, and nothing you or I can do to change the facts.. the news won't change if you make it a family evening and do something else, something even fun..
Catch back up with the news some time tomorrow..

I was listening to the FD dispatch earlier. I'm used to the locals with a (mostly) professional way of speaking. In Boston it was "Hey engine 33, head out to MLK street for a car fire." "Got it."

Right... I was a dispatcher for 12 years and we were always to be so professional using our proper 10-codes so hearing them talk in plain language in Boston was very different. It managed to work well here, considering the critical incident they were working.

It is hard to understand that some humans in our midst are so fanatical, that they don't have a conscience, and can deliberately cause so much chaos, and pain. This event is a national tragedy, just as 9/11, Benghazi, and other attacks over the years; no matter how many died/injured. An attack on America is heartbreaking, and shocking to all of us, that consider ourselves Americans. We are the most benevolent country in the world, but, at the same time, so many hate us. We have to ask why? Prayers to all affected by this horrible event. So terribly sad.
Perhaps you have good sense - most people don't. So they traipse into the danger zone, get injured or killed, then they or their next of kin want to sue the city because the mean old policeman let them be in harm's way.
Consider that paying for the sins of your fellow man.
Terrorist attacks on US soil are a pretty big deal. That said, I haven't watched one second of the TV coverage this evening because A) there's nothing I can do about it; and B) ...there's no B. I try not to spend a whole lot of time worrying about things I have no control over.
Boston PD shut down the towers in the belief that a cell phone set off the bombs. In the first few minutes of the bombing, they had nothing to go on, so all options were evaluated and taken. Service was restored later.
So old man, again, better to be safe and prevent a possible bomb than to allow people to talk on their phones during a critical, mass casualty trauma!!

I don't think, and I hope, local gov'ts, politicians and PDs have that power or authority.
The most important thing to have in an emergency is communication..and tacticly it's the first target..
I would bet the emergency services, hospitals and probably the PD itself is dependent on cell service

That you continuously question the intelligence of anyone who engages in conversation with you here, indicates your level of intelligence.
The irony of that is that you you're too stupid to see that for yourself.
