Further, does anyone care that he's a black man and, gasp, will have tied this mythical white man record?

Further, does the seeming fact that Barry is a juicer mean squat?

Further, if so, is he an asterisk record tier/breaker or, simply, as was everyone else, a member of his era?

Not so much. Was commonly used by more than him. The usual argument is that long fly balls might have been long outs instead of homeruns if he wasn't juicing. No way to confirm that.

*: It would be interesting to see what the reaction would be if Barry and Mark McGuire were pursuing the record under similar circumstances. Just like most cases involving Americans of differing races, the spectre of race is almost always raised by one faction or the other.

I think McGuire may be receiving a slight pass since he is retired. I say slight because I don't think he'll be a first ballot hall of famer. He most lilkely would have if the steroid stuff hadn't come up.

I hope it's just a coincidence that Bonds, Sosa and Palmiero have been derided by the press and public and not related to the color of their skin or country of birth. I also hope it's just a coincidence that the players suspended for steroid use seem to be disproportionally Hispanic.

As you know, racial and ethnic differences often fuel the fires that overheat the great melting pot that is this country....stay tuned.

Admittedly, he used all the power additives(creatine, etc, which weren't illegal at the time) Hell, let em all into the HOF, the glory days of baseball have been gone for years anyway. Bonds would be a choirboy compared to some of the azzhats(Ty Cobb, for one) of the bygone years
