Booster on Amtrak?

I've searched the site and maybe I'm just missing it but does Amtrak require you to have your kid in a booster seat? We're heading down to Georgia over the holidays and one of our sons is 6 yrs old, so still uses a booster seat in the car. Do we need to bring it for the train ride?

No it is not required. However, be aware that there are NO seatbelts on the train.

What I've seen it the past has been parents lug the seat onto the train, only to wind up tossing it on the floor. I don't think there's a problem taking it with you though in case you need it for GA.

So smart

Definitely bring the seat for when you are traveling in GA :yay: We learned this the hard way and had to purchase a seat before.

That's why I was asking. We'll need it in GA but I was going to ship it down there with the Christmas presents if we didn't need it on the train. Thanks!

My dad worked for Amtrak about 30 years ago so we always rode for free. Haven't been on since so I had no clue what had changed. Didn't have seatbelts back then either.

:yahoo: Just booked our tickets. The kids are so excited to be riding the train instead of driving down there although either way, it's still a 10 hour trip. At least we can get up, walk around, eat and use the bathroom freely.

Should I be worried about motion sickness? I used to be real bad as a kid. Couldn't go to the store 30 minutes away without ":barf: I seemed to have out-grown it but I can't sleep or read in a car without getting that sick feeling. How bad is the movement of the train? I think I'd be ok as long as I'm seated forward at all times. Husband has his concerns though and I'd be humiliated if I got sick on the train. Maybe I should take some medicine before getting on just in case??

It is definitely percievable, and can even get pretty rough on corners and such. Stick to a forward car to minimize that. You should be OK after a bit though, you'll get your 'train legs' as long as you move about some and stay distracted from the motion... Bring something for motionsickness, but with luck you won't need it, or won't need it for long.

Thanks. I'll have to remember to put dramamine on the list of things to bring.
