The group of Venezuelan migrants illegally crossing into El Paso, Texas, as they waved an enormous flag. Agents can be seen pushing migrants back into the river while firing pepper balls near them to control the crowd.

That actually is a good point. When a US citizen says 'America', it pretty much translates to "The Untied States of America'. The real "America" is everything from Canada to the tip of South America.

When we say "American" we are referring to a country of citizenship (United States of America), not a continent. Venezuelans are not called Americans, they are called "Venezuelans". Those who live in Mexico are called "Mexicans". Canadians are called "Canadians". Etc.

But you can call Nicaraguans "Americans" if you want.
