Bosch On Demand Tankless Hot Water Heater - help!

Looking for someone who is able to repair a Bosch On Demand Tankless Hot Water Heater. It was here when we moved in 5 years ago so I have no records of who originally installed it. Our home warranty company can't locate anyone in our area that they normally use so I have to find someone. They must be licensed and insured. Any recommendations of who to call?

I googled and left messages for 3 local companies on Wednesday. None of them have bothered to return my call. Hubby's about ready to rip it out and put in a regular water heater. Every time we turn on the shower, we have to reset the water heater. And during the shower, the water turns ice cold for about 5 minutes before getting warm again. It's too cold for this crap!

Gas or electric? ...... a safety should not reset itself in the middle of a cycle but a gas unit may try to restart if it fails after a time-out period...... if it's a gas product you would figure any gas company would be able to service it.

Taylor gas doesn't sell Bosch but they do sell and service tankless water heaters. Seeing how you don't know who to repair it I'd assume you haven't had it serviced in 5 years?

If you are on well water especially, tankless heaters need to be serviced to prevent things like scaling... and if it's gas it may have an exhaust filtration that usus a water reservoir in the tank to capture the really bad and corrosive gas. That tank needs to be drained regularly.

In My Opinion
My personal thoughts on this based on actual consumer information,
put a hot water heater in and get rid of the tankless.
They are a good idea but at this point they still have a failure rate that makes them unattractive.

However, if you talk to people that have had them for a short time, they seem to love them. Failure is coming.

Disagree.

Parents have had theirs well over ten years...

We've had ours all told about 7 years, and other than much lower electric bills no problems or repair calls.

Ours actually ran off of gas for a few years than a couple of years ago moved and had it converted to lp....

No way a tank heater could even compare..

We had Bosch Tankless Electric Water Heater. It doesn't work very well in the winter time when the temperature drop under 50 degrees. Hot water is GONE until it is warm outside again. We installed a tank water heater, and our electric bill did not make any difference.

My recommendation is to install tank water heater, and never have to worry about cold shower again.

What you describe in no way represents the experience we have with our GAS tankless water heater. We've never run out of hot water, regardless of outside temps. The only way that we'd run out of hot water is if we were to run out of propane gas in our huge tank...and that isn't likely to happen.

We LOVE our gas tankless water heater. Absolutely, positively, thoroughly love it.

Electric you just don't get the BTU that you really need for a tankless' and considering they need TWO 240v dedicated lines they SUCK up power when they are running. Gas, I think ours is around 250, 000 BTU BUT draws less than 4 amps (start up).

Ours is gas with multiple burners depending on use. Normally, like a running shower or filling a bathtub, only one burner runs. The second burner will come on if needed like when we have 3 showers running, filling the garden tub AND the dishwasher and/or wahing machine is filling up. Very rare in this house that the two burners come on. It's not so rare that BG and I will be taking a shower while filling up the tub for Bubba to take a bath.

Ours can also be mounted in or out of the house... the issue you speak of COULD be realized if it was mounted outside. Never an issue with it mounted indoors

Its ok to disagree, My observation comes from those in the industry.

Although, I did just have to replace a 25 year old water heater in my house.

Forum etiquette dictates that one of us has to flip out and call the other a stupid poopy head, or something more dramatic, we can't civily disagree, thats just not right.

Dumbest post ever, stupid poopy head.

Not sure I want one of those instants. Sounds good, but just another thing to maintain. Especially since I would have to use propane. I like my big old water tank that I can still get hot water for a shower out of after 3 days with no power. I can run the pump, but not the water heater. After that its cold showers, or none.

My mistake.

Look, you can say what you want about those tankless heaters but you are either just too much of an ass to admit you are wrong, or you are lying so others make the same mistake you did.
buttchunk.

That better?

I've heard and read the reviews that GAS Bosch tankless water heater is way better than electric Bosch tankless water heater. I wouldn't recommend the Electric Tankless Water Heater. Also, the reviews on the Electric Bosch Tankless Water Heater isn't good. The reviews wasn't there five years ago when I purchased it.

The electric Bosch tankless water heater I had only can have one thing running at a time, or it steal all the water pressure away. We only can run one thing at a time. Now, we have a tank water heater, and we can have many things running at the same time.

It's good to hear a positive review from forumites about gas tankless water heater.

Bosch withdrew from the residential tankless market here in the US last year due to federal water usage regulation cutting flow rate below the level at which their units operate most efficiently and well, 2.2 gallons per minute versus 2.5 gallons.

Lowe's used to sell Bosch, and a unit as old as is described could well have been installed by Lowe's at that time.

My in-laws have had tankless (electric) for over 15 years back in Massachusetts, never a problem.

It's gas. Not sure why we didn't think of asking our propane company...makes sense that they'd be able to service it. Thanks!

Giving Taylor Gas a call, we switched to them from UP about a year ago. Great people to deal with. Hope they can help us. And no, we sure haven't had it serviced since moving in and we are on a well. :stupid:

Yeah, no kidding. Never in my life have I come across so many companies who don't follow through. Guess they don't need the business. No return phone calls, no shows when appointments are set, etc. Fence companies, tree companies, plumbers, electricians, etc. I've never lived anywhere where this is so common. It's to the point that I truly appreciate when a company follows through. Sad but true!
