Bow fishing

Just cruised past the Sea Breeze and they were weighing in a bow fishing competition. I had no idea there were that many guys that did it. Mostly flat bottomed metal boats with platforms to stand on up front. Coolers full of skates. New hobby anyone?

First time I ever heard of it was last week when a friend sent me a pic of a big ass skate he got.

I understand how you catch them, the rig on the bow.. shoot the fish..etc. How do you reel them in?

I should have checked out the bows more closely. We used to do it hand over hand, but it wasn't 20# skates. More like 3# carp. They probably have actual reels now.

There is a retriever that you crank like a standard reel.
