Can anyone give me some suggestions.....my boxer girl has irritated the end of her nub somehow. It has happend a couple times before, but tonight has been the worst. It was bleeding really bad (got blood on my daughters bed) and she kept wanting to lick it. I cleaned it up and got it to stop bleeding, but for some reason it won't never heal up completely. Any suggestions?? What could be causing this?? TIA:confused:

I've got a beautiful partner pit for you. He's 10 months old. His name is Chief! His foster is a Chief in the Navy. You can figure out the rest!

We were looking into that, ours is about that age too. :howdy:

If she's crated, she could be causing the damage on that. Some of us Pit owners call it "Happy Tail". It's caused by them wagging their tails in the crate and it beating against the bars. Boxers might potentially cause it from sitting down on it too.

It's not a big deal and easy to treat. Keep the area clean and treat it with an antibiotic. Blue Kote works good and is easy to use (it's a spray) and you can get it at any horse tack store. I like a product called Eqyss Coat Restorer. It's an intense moisturizer (and smells great). I usually pull the scab off the best I can, clean the wound and slap some of that stuff on. The wound heals right up and then the hair grows back within weeks.

So keep it clean and moisturized and you should see results in days. :yahoo:

Thanks for everyone's replies. Yes, I am a first time boxer owner. Wonderful dog, although she has caused us a hand full of problems. This being the most minor of all of them.

She is crated, I didn't think about that being the cause..... Maybe her crate is too small for her or something. I am going to look for that antibiotic spray and hopefully that will help to heal it up.

Oh and she is 3 years old.

Blu-kote is great, I love it for livestock, but it is extremely messy (dark purple/blue) and I would never dream of using it on an inside animal. You might want to find something less messy or less purple.

I've never had issues using it on my inside guys. Works great on the horse too. :) There are several others out there too though. Some are ointments and may be easier to use if you'd like. The key is to keep it moisturized to help the wound heal (just like a bandaid on ours cuts helps them heal faster).
