Boy, six, killed, by flying metal at monster truck show - Telegraph

"One of the vehicles taking part in the monster truck show in Tacoma, just south of Seattle, broke apart while performing circular turns, or doughnuts, sending debris flying towards spectators.

The shards of metal flew 50 feet over a safety barrier, striking Sabastian Hizey, six, in the head and an unidentified man. The boy was pronounced dead at hospital and the man admitted for treatment.

An autopsy to determine cause of death was due to take place on Sunday. In a statement, the boy's father, Jessie Hizey, said his son was hit in the head by a metal weighing between seven and 12 pounds. "I cannot get the images" out of my head, Mr Hizey said.

Spectator Christine Moe told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that the truck had earlier been removed from the show after it failed to start but reappeared for a freestyle performance. During this part of the show, a part broke off from under the truck and metal flew into the crowd. "It was horrific," said Ms Moe, who with her husband and two children. "My husband ran down to the bottom (of the arena) and was screaming over the edge, 'Call 911.' I ran up the hallway screaming, 'He's bleeding to death."

Witnesses told local media the show, at the Tacoma Dome, continued after the boy and man were injured.

"It was kind of angering a lot of people that they didn't even stop the show," witness Gabe Mausten told local station KOMO news."

Well, I guess the libs will have more fuel with which to ban monster truck shows.

Guns don't kill people; monster trucks kill people.

Wait, that's not quite right.....

It was an accident. Yes it is very sad a child was injured and killed at a show but how many times has this happened at other events such as racing, motocross, ect? It isn't something which happens at every show the Monster Jam, just this one particular time it is very unfortunate and tragic.

What a terrible thing to happen. I can't imagine the pain that little boy's family is going through right now.

Accidents happen. That's not what's so bad about this, what sucks is that they didn't even stop the show, nor did they cancel shows at this same place(with its obvious safety issues) for the rest of the weekend. I feel like they owed that little boy and his family enough respect to have at least stopped the show for the night.
