BREAKING NEWS: Explosion reported at Illinois mall

WAUKEGAN, Ill. - A large explosion has been reported at a shopping plaza in Waukegan, Ill., and a town official says there are multiple injuries.

Mayor Richard Hyde told MSNBC he's been told by authorities there are "a multitude of injuries."

Television images of the Chicago-area shopping center show a collapsed ceiling above a tuxedo shop, cellular phone store and a hair salon.

It isn't clear what caused the blast. Authorities were on the scene.

Five confirmed injured by police

WAUKEGAN, Ill. - A large explosion at a shopping plaza Thursday ignited a fire and injured five people, police said.

Firefighters from several departments battled the blaze in the strip mall, which contained several businesses, including Tuxedo World, Cleopatra's Unisex Hair Salon, Cellular Concepts and a travel agency.

A large section of the building's roof collapsed and plate-glass windows shattered on the building's facade. Firefighters were searching the wreckage to determine whether anyone was trapped.

It wasn't known what caused the blast.

A strip mall normally isn't a terrorist target so I suspect a gas leak of some sort (just guessing), or someone who didn't like their cell phone service...
