Sen. Lott has scheduled 2 news conferences in his home state later in the day to discuss his plans.
No reason for Lott's resignation plans was given, but according to a congressional official, there is nothing amiss with Lott's health. The senator has "other opportunities" he plans to pursue, the official said, without elaborating.

Not surprised. Once a rising star for the conservative movement he became a typical Washington insider, flip flopping on issues and riding the fence. He would make occasional visits to MS. to the Neshoba County Fair, dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt to apear to be one of the good 'ole boys, then hightail it back to D.C. to be snake in the grass. The good people of Ms. saw through this B.S. and didn't appreciate it. What you see is not what you get with Lott. Too bad he let power and money change him.
