Forget DirectTV. Not doing well as a company, rumors of their demise. If you're not in an area that's getting an upgraded service, you might look into Starlink. Not inexpensive, and they are so overwhelmed with new customers that they are putting a surcharge of up to $500 on new accounts. I've had Starlink for a couple of years and it just works. Very, very rarely a signal loss due to weather. I am getting 200-350mb/s download speeds. This is just now with heavy overcast.

I should mention that Starlink does have some lower cost options, best to go to the Starlink site and enter your address to get all the available options.

Thanks for the response. I'll look into Starlink. At least I'd get a kiss (service) from them! 😁😵‍💫

Do you know if a Starlink dish requires a clear "line of sight" toward their satellites? Our buildings are all either in dense woods with tall trees or the trees are directly in the path the typical dish needs to see clear...

Starlink is Ku band (apparently E band in the future), so trees and weather will interfere. So yes, clear line of sight needed.

Yes. Mine actually requires a very wide field of view, not just a clear single direction, but I have the v2 disk with a motor that swings the dish in all directions, and actively scans for obstructions. The new dish is just pointed somewhere between N and E, and needs a single clear shot.

The red dots are the edges of trees in my field of view.

Before you buy Starlink, you can check if your desired installation location will have a clear view of the sky, essential for uninterrupted service. Starlink offers a convenient pre-purchase sky check within its mobile app.

Here's how to use the "Check for Obstructions" tool in the Starlink app:
  1. Download the Starlink app: If you don't already have it, download the Starlink app from the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Go to your intended installation location: Stand at the spot where you plan to set up your Starlink dish.
  3. Open the app and select "Check for Obstructions": Within the Starlink app, navigate to the "Check for Obstructions" feature.
  4. Follow the guided experience: The app will guide you through scanning the sky using your phone's camera.
  5. Scan Starlink's field of view: Hold your phone as close as possible to the expected height and perspective of the Starlink dish and follow the on-screen prompts to scan the relevant areas of the sky.
  6. Repeat as needed in different locations: If your initial location has obstructions, try scanning in other potential locations to find a clearer spot.
What to look for:
  • Obstructions: The app will show you what is within Starlink's field of view and provide an overview of the expected service quality based on the obstructions detected.
  • Clear 110-degree view: Ideally, Starlink requires an unobstructed 110-degree view of the sky to maintain a connection with satellites.
  • Potential locations: Consider open fields, rooftops, poles, or elevated structures that are free from trees, buildings, or other obstacles.
Benefits of the pre-purchase sky check:
  • Assess viability: It helps you determine if Starlink will work well at your desired location before you make a purchase.
  • Identify optimal location: You can find the best spot for your Starlink dish to minimize service interruptions.
  • Prepare for installation: Knowing the location helps you plan for mounting and necessary accessories.
By using the Starlink app's "Check for Obstructions" tool, you can make an informed decision about ordering Starlink and ensure a smooth setup process.

I got a message from Breezeline yesterday about shutting me down unless I download their new process, I tried to adhere to their instructions , but they don't recognize my old email because it doesn't end in breezeline .com. Caling them today.

Nope, not since they went total AT&T. They drop channels from the package and raise the rate. I'm going to dump them soon. And I use HughesNet for internet and home phone, but to step up to unlimited data for streaming seems pretty costly from my limited searching.

I'm way out in the boonies and am exploring going through cell service and one of the unlimited data whole home internet plans. I'll definitely have to get a cell booster again (was using one for a number of years but it took a lightening strike near enough to cook the amp).

Well I tried calling ---never did get a human.
So: I went to their office in California with a copy of what was sent to me and was told it was a hackers scam.
Too bad I fell for it, but if they would answer their freaking phone with a human they could have saved me a trip.

Damn I hate --absolutely hate computers that answer phones and pressing buttons and never getting a human.
