Bridal Shop in Sans Souci Plaza

Today's Bridal Shop in Lexington Park
Has anyone had any dealing with a bridal shop in San Souci Plaza. My daughter just had an expeirience with them and I want to know if any one has had the same or similar problem. My daughter ordered her dress and six brides maids dresses. They were asked to give their full measurements. Some were taken there and other were taken with other sources. When all the dresses can in they were huge. In fact one girls dress came in four sizes too big. Now the shop wants to charge for alterations that are almost as much as they paid for the dresses. When confronted they said they send the measurements to the dress maker and that is the sizes that they made and sent back. The owner of the shop said she is not responsible because that is the way the dressmaker works. I said if that is the vendor that she chose to use and if they have a flawed sytem in how to take measurements for dress sizes she is ultimatly responsible for any work that is performed by this person. She is the one that took the money(quite a bit I might add) and that is her problem. I don't want to ruin my daughter's special day so I don't plan to do anything prior to the wedding ,but watch out afterward. Most of these girls don't have alot of money and almost doubling the cost is something thay they were not prepared for.

I'd say that's a fairly common problem. I had a bad experience at Beautiful Bride in Waldorf. I'd picked out my dress, but they didn't carry it. They do carry other dresses by the designer though, so they said they could order it for me. When I went in to order it, they "couldn't find it" in the book, all the while trying to sell me dresses they had in the store (they were all ugly). Finally I asked to see the book and found my dress. Then they wanted to take my measurements over my clothes. I said no. So they took my measurements correctly and ordered the dress. I am very tall, and the sales-woman talked me into not ordering extra length (it would've added about 10% to the price of the dress), because wedding dresses are usually very long to begin with. When it came in, I asked if I could come in for a fitting that week (I was very nervous about my dress not being long enough at this point, and wanted to know ASAP if I was going to have to find another dress). They told me that I could not come in, because it was too soon. So I told them I'd be in later that week to pick up my dress for good, and I'd take it somewhere else for alterations. Luckily it fit perfectly and no alterations were needed. Maybe it's the area.

Like brides aren't stressed out enough without having to deal with the bridal shop making it worse.

We were lucky - my DIL's dresses were all perfect. We got them at David's Bridal in Rockville. I did start getting nervous when we were three weeks away and they still hadn't called to tell me the dresses were in. So I called them and they said someone had left a message at my office (which was a lie).

And I have another story, about a very "posh" bridal shop in Alexandria. My best friend spent an obscene amount of money on her wedding dress. Granted, it was gorgeous, but very expensive. The bridesmaid and I, the bride and groom's mothers, and the groom's 3 sisters, all also bought our dresses there. So they made a pretty penny off of her. She and her mother argued about wether or not she'd wear a veil (she didn't want it, her mom did). So she caved and ordered one on a Saturday. She called back the very next morning (a Sunday) and asked to cancel the veil-it was really expensive and she didn't want it. Although they had not yet sent the order to the designer, they refused to let her cancel. She ended up not wearing the veil, and wasting that money. I think everyone has a horror story about their wedding dress purchase.

That's exactly why I rented my wedding dress!

Not me - the first time I wore a dress I already had, and the second time I wore a sundress I picked up at Sears or someplace.

I got married last May, and also got my dress, and my bridesmaids dresses there. First off on the day of my wedding my maid of honors dress split down the back, with us only having a half an hour to get to the church. At my reception all of my bustles on my dress broke, so my dress dragged the entire time. After I got back from my honeymoon, I took my dress, and my maid of honors dress to Todays bride, after calling the owner several times with no call back. She asked me why on my wedding day I did not bring the dress there to get fixed, yea like I had time to do that. She told me they would preserve my dress for free, but my maid of honor was basically screwed. I also ordered my flowergirl dress that was black and white in the photo but when it came in it was white on white. I was told that they don't make it black and white, but the tag on the dress showed the same gown in black and white. I would never deal with them again.
