Broadened my musical horizons

So recently I have begun listening to some different stations on XM because of a couple catchy tunes I have heard while Boy and some of his pals are listening to "their music". I actually like some of the stuff, it's not bad so much to his amazement (and dismay) I dial it up in the truck sometimes. So this morning I am coming to work and I punch up 22 on XM and hear this masterpiece by Kid Cudi and Kanye West. I am not so hot for the rap stuff so I usually turn it but for some reason I didn't.

I make her say
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
When I
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
I make her say
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
What up
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
Me first!

She wanna have whatever she like
She can if she bring her friend
And we can have one hell of a night
Through the day
Eh, I mean staring like a creeper cause you gotta peep ‘er
I mean you probably might be saying you aint jockin’ either
But man, o girl got a fat old @ss
Yeah, the type that make you tell a b!tch just dance
And f@#k them other niggas cause you down for her b!tches
F@#k them other niggas cause she down for the stickin’
And f@#k them other niggas hope she down for some lickin’
And f@#k them other b!tches
Cause she’s down for the trickin’ up

I’m hopin’ she a rider
When its said and done
And she spit it up and swallow now
I ain’t got a trip about them niggas who like her
But me and mammy know who can really make her go

Lady Gaga
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
(When I)
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
(I make her say)
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
(When I)
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face

Kanye West
She said she want whatever she like
She said she gone’ bring her friend
Now we gone’ have a hell of a night
Through the day
I made her say
Hold up, born in 88′
How old is that? Old enough
I got seniority with the sorority
So, that explain why I love college
Gettin’ brain in the library cause I love knowledge
When you use your Medulla Oblongata
And give me scoliosis until I comatoses
And do it while I sleep yeah a little osmosis
And that’s my commandment you ain’t gotta ask Moses
More champagne more toast’es
More damn planes, more coast’es
And f@#k a bus, the Benz is parked like Rosa osa …

I make her say
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
When I
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
I make her say
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
When I
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
I make her say

Common
She said she want whatever she like
But she gotta bring your friend
We could have a hell of a night, through the day
She blamed it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol
She had her hair did, it was bound to fall
Down, down for a damn, Cudi already said it
A poker face book I already read it
But man, her head was gooder than the music
electro body known to blow fuses
A stripper from the south lookin for a payday
Said b!tch you should do it for the love like Ray Jay
But they say you be on that conscious tip
Get your hair right and get up on this conscious dick
I embody everything from the Gali to the party
Its the way I was raised on the south side safari, so

Lady GaGa
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
(When I)
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face
(I make her say)

Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh
(When I)
P-p-p-poker face
P-p-poke her face

Lady Gaga
Can’t read my, can’t read my
No he can’t read my poker face
She’s got me like nobody
(repeat)

Never heard the boys listening to this one and I hope they don't.

Expecting!
Don't forget about the Stanky Leg. Or 'Blame It (On the Alchohol)'. I went to my sister's middle school dance, Every single one of them, knew all the words, especially this part;

" Just like you look,
couple more shots
You open up like a book,
I ain't trippin 'cause I'ma read ya shawty,
I ain't trippin',
I jus' wanna please ya
I'ma take a shot of Nuvo, shawty,
then you know
It's going down, we can go kick it like Judo
You know what I mean
Shawty got drunk, thought it all was a dream
So I made her say Ahhh, Ahh, Ahhh
Now she got her hand on my leg
Got my seats all wet in my ride
(All over my ride)
She look me dead in the eye
Then my pants got bigga
She already knew what to figga
Had her lookin' at her boyfriend
like, ""F*** dat *****""

It's the truth. I go voice my opinions when I hear the DJ playing those kinds of songs. I don't think it's appropriate.

Methodically disorganized
Just another "factor" in the country going to he11.
:yeahthat: This crap has made its way to every part of our country now, even among the white rural kids, but I think I would unleash on my kids if I ever heard them playing this stuff.

To be fair they censored Elvis, Bob Dylan, the Kingsmen and others.... but I agree this is TOTALLY different. When you break down the meaning of the lyrics it's kind of shocking. I remember my neighbor's kids loved that Crank Dat song by Soulja Boy, they showed me the dance and all, the 8 year old could do it and she knew the words.

Kind of related.... years ago I was shopping at the Exchange. Whatever satellite station they have playing, it's usually patriotic themed music. This particular song was Miss America by David Byrne who I'm a big fan of and have the cd it's on. I knew this song wasn't at all patriotic :lmao: I waited, listening close to the song, the one song on that cd that he throws out the F word and yes I heard it standing there at the exchange completely uncensored but nobody heard, it was one of those things you barely notice:
I love America, her secrets safe with me
And I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although you have a reputation
Can I afford to move above my station
Im not the only heart you've conquered

And I love America, but boy can she be cruel
And I know how tall she is
Without her platform shoes

Oh super-girl, youll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't run away, oh don't you recognize me
I'm not the only heart you've conquered

And I kissed America, when she was fleecing me
She knows I understand that she needs to be free
And I miss America and sometimes she does too
And sometimes I think of her
When she is ####ing you

I love america
Yo siempre he confiado en ti [=i have always trusted you]
I love america
Por que me tratas asi? [=why do you treat me like this? ]

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although your pants are round your ankles
And when you're down, Ill be your dirty harry
It will be just like in the movies

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't look away, Ill be your Teenage Fanclub
I'm not the only heart you've conquered

The difference, I think, is that whie the previous generations scandalous musicians did sing about what was not approved by the majority, I cant recall them being so nasty towards women. Maybe in their world, women are party favors at best, toys to be broken and tossed away at worst, but not in my world. and not in any world I'm raising my kids to think is a good place to be.

Think it through.

The rap world, be it Eminem or some black artist, comes from a ghetto or trailer park world with no dads, a world of drugs, violence, money, success that rewards drugs and violence, and single moms who are tramps because that's the only skill they have to get someone to help with the bills and a roof over their heads.

So, it becomes this incredibly base, self centered world that celebrates the big man, the pimp, the drug dealer, the leader, the thug, then being part of his inner circle and everything else is an enemy or something to be used, bought and sold, and a world hates and ridicules anyone who doesn't see the world their way.

It celebrates and promotes the ugliness. Name another genre where being a criminal helps promote your art?

Rap is a fascinating thing.
