Bulk shopping

I might be one of the few folks left on earth that doesn't routinely "shop in bulk"-I am now considering venturing forth. Any suggestions on the best places you've discovered? TIA!

I buy a few things in bulk from BJ's. They are water, juice and Yoo-Hoo's. I find that paper towels and toilet paper are cheaper at Target - not sure about laundry detergent.

We buy some stuff at Sam's....like crackers and granola bars...but most stuff is actually cheaper at walmart or target. I would compare before you shop.

Once or twice a year I buy some stuff in bulk, paper towels, trash bags, laundry detergent, and stuff like that at BJ's. I would buy TP but I still have 20 rolls left from when BJ's opened in 2005. :sherylcrow:

:yeahthat:

Some things that are cheaper:

Trash bags, tabasco, soy sauce, garlic in the quart jar, some frozen food.

Buy it on sale at the grocery store or Target:

Paper products, produce, frozen foods, meat, eggs, soda, spaghetti sauce.

The best thing about BJ's is eating your way through the store. Last time I went there, I had four teriyaki wings, one dozen popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, two meatballs, four pieces of sausage, some mac and cheese, and seven cream puffs. :burp:

You are the victim of brilliant marketing. Not only did you/or were tempted to buy wings, shrimp, chicken, meatballs, sausage, mac and cheese, and cream puffs you probably had to swing by aisle 34 for a half gallon jug of Tums.

Actually, I didn't end up buying anything that day. By the time I got done with the munchies I was so full that everything disgusted me. The Target brand Tums are much cheaper than the ones at BJ's.

I think BJ's has a decent dell on the 18-count eggs. They're Extra Large vs Large (what you find out most grocery stores) and I think they're less. I stock up on frozen veggies and I'm not the biggest fan of their generic brand stuff - they do have decent prices on spinach and brocolli. I think they may have decent prices on the frozen chicken too.

We regularly buy some things from BJ's - diapers, bathroom products (shampoo - I always buy the huge containers that last near forever, toothpaste, vitamins), paper products (paper plates and napkins), powdered drinks, dog food. Since I almost always have coupons for all of these, I save even more. We also buy from them when we're having guests and need stuff, like sternos and those aluminum containers for food. Trash bags WHEN they have the coupons up front. Some things, we buy BJ's brand - our son likes the big barrel of animal crackers they sell, and the dogs like the BJ's brand dog biscuits. (They're dogs - they like the taste of sticks and dirt).

Some things, like their folding chairs, tables and rugs I've found are always bargains.

A lot of stuff isn't cheaper - most of the time, meats and produce are absolutely no cheaper there, although I do buy frozen hamburgers in bulk there. And some things like sugar free popsicles are cheaper elsewhere WHEN they're on sale (which is the only time to buy them). And I haven't found big ticket items to be worth a trip most of the time.
