Burger King plans to roll out Impossible Whopper across the United States

The new product is designed to "give somebody who wants to eat a burger every day, but doesn't necessarily want to eat beef everyday, permission to come into the restaurants more frequently," Chris Finazzo, president of Burger King North America, told CNN Business when discussing the initial test.

I like a good veggie burger, but this BK offering will be a fail. People who want vegetables and food that's good for them have always had a ton of options, and they're already in the habit of going there.

Unlike most veggie burgers that are targetted towards people who don't eat meat, this is the opposite. It's intended to look/feel/taste like a boring old burger, it's not rubbing your nose in how "healthy" it may be. The point being that if it's eventually the same price or cheaper, and happens to be healthier or more sustainable, people might actually choose to eat it.

I had a v1 impossible burger in San Diego, fixed up similar to a "Banzai" burger from Red Robin (so lot's of sauce that may have covered minor inconsistancies in taste). Tasted pretty good to me, and if you hadn't told me it wasn't meat I never would have noticed.

But they will need to get the price down considerably to be competative.
