But . . . but they "support the troops?" (beware language)

But . . . but they "support the troops?"

This was the scene yesterday in Portland, Oregon, as “anti-war” demonstrators burned not only a US flag, but a US soldier in effigy.

But whatever you do, don't question their patriotism. The left says they "support the troops" ya know.

Oh and lets not forget this little gem of a banner.

Wonder where Forestal was the day before yesterday. This seems like the sort of thing he would support.

I like the fact that the pictures come from a Right Wing website! Its funny that I cant find those pictures ANYWHERE else but there. Most likely isnt even from a US protest anyway. And by the way, just because your president is a complete moron who got us into a needless war and killed over 3000 soldiers doesnt mean that we on the left dont support the troops. Seems to me like it is the Republicans who dont support them, especially when they come home and have Walter Reed to go to!! Or when they die because they dont have the right equipment, or maybe sending them back when they are still injured or sick... Seems to me if you really wanted to support the troops you would want them home as soon as possible and not dying in a war that means NOTHING! Afghanistan was where we should have kept our troops, not putting them into a country that did nothing to us. The victims of 9/11 are probably rolling around in their graves knowing the man behind their deaths is still out there, free as a bird, while we are stuck in a needless war!!

Just a little info on troop equipment:

From the office of the Inspector General:

"…. Based on responses from approximately 1,100 Service members, they experienced shortages of force-protection equipment, such as up-armored vehicles, electronic countermeasure devices, crew-served weapons, and communications equipment. As a result, Service members were not always equipped to effectively complete their missions….

The Request for Forces process did not always ensure that Service members who performed missions that they do not traditionally perform – such as training, provincial reconstruction, detainee operations, and explosive ordinance disposal – received the equipment necessary to perform their wartime mission. As a result, Service members performed missions without the proper equipment, used informal procedures to obtain equipment and sustainment support, and canceled or postponed missions while waiting to receive equipment….

The U.S. Central Command's and the Army's internal controls were not adequate…."

Hmmm, now who doesnt support the troops?

Anyone care to mention why the troops had so little equipment going in to this conflict? Specifically, who cut the funding for the very items mentioned?

Here, lemme help you boys. I know you're challenged....

139,000 currently serving. So 1100 is .79% of that total. Yep, less than 1%.

Great point guys!!

You also can't perform a good statistical sample based on a set of largely negative responses. It would be like asking "who here thinks the forums suck?" and basing your "research" on the negative replies. You can't build meaningful data based on a complaint pile - you only have anecdotal information, and not a representative sample.

It's been my job for the past seventeen years.

You can't build meaningful data from a pile of anecdotes and complaints. All you can deduce is that problems exist - you can't conclude that it is representative of the whole without building an intelligently constructed sample.

He's right - you can no more base a conclusion on 1,100 complaints out of several hundred thousand than you can on ONE complaint from a disgruntled restaurant patron. You CAN if you start with a sample. You CAN'T just from a pile of complaints. THAT is NOT a sample.
