Buy new car out of state, inspection required?

Bought the Neon in FL brand new, but that was 12 years ago and I cant recall. So, looking at buying a brand new vehicle in Ohio, of all places. Only one like it within 500 miles, of course. Got the tax thing settled, they will give me Ohio temp tags and title, knowing I'll have to pay tax wherever I register it. But how does inspection work. St Marys, no smog. Seems silly to register a car with only 500 miles on it. Anyone have experience with this? All the stuff I find seems focussed on non-new vehicles.

Think you meant "inspect" where I bolded. Maryland is a stickler for a vehicle having a Maryland Vehicle Safety Inspection certificate before it can be tagged. Basically if it didn't come from a Maryland dealer you will need the inspection certificate.

edit: I just checked the MVA site and it appears from the content there that only used vehicles need the inspection certificate. Maybe a call to the MVA could clarify the situation.

if you have the title [out of state not MD Title] in hand and a BOS, you can go to DMV get hard metal plates by telling them the car is outside MD, and you need to drive it back ....

MVA will 'hold' the title until you take an inspection certificate back to DMV.

they used to give out plates good for a yr ... I did this several times driving the insured beaters into the ground and then junking them ...

last time I went in, I got plates with a expiration at the end of the next month - basically 30 days which they then extend for 2 yrs when you turn in the inspection paperwork

alternately don't most states have 'transport tags' good for 30 days

Found this here -
Note: if you have purchased your new car from an out-of-state dealership, you don’t need to obtain the inspection certificate. Only used vehicles are required to be inspected.
Don't know how "correct" it is.

They are setting me up with 30 day Ohio temps, if indeed we go through with this. I'll call the MVA tomorrow, just figured someone might have done this recently.

Just looked through the Transportation code and there is nothing requiring a new vehicle to have an inspection certificate, only used vehicles.
