Buying kids clothing

Suggestions for buying kids clothing needed. Shouldn't be a problem right? Wrong......... Here's the deal. I need to get some long pants/jeans ect. for the fall and winter for a 3 year old (she'll be 4 the end of December). The problem lies here, she's very tall for her age, and she's a little chunky. Not obese, not roly poly, but a few extra pounds. Her father is 6'4 and nearly 300 pounds and the doctors estimate she will probably top out at around 6'2 :faint:

Currently her summer clothes have been size 7/8 and even some such as t-shirts are 8/10. Summer clothes were easy, I didn't have to worry about length for the shorts, they were all just fine. I'm worried the 8 pants may be a bit too long and I really didn't want to have to hem every pair of pants until she grows into them either. I've checked a few websites, and the plus size for girls doesn't start until size 10.

Other than sweat pants, leggings, can anyone give me some ideas for this child for winter clothes and where to find them? I'm not trying to break the bank on them either :nomoney:

There's a sale in October (9 & 10 I think) at the fairgrounds. Leprechaun Lilly's I think. There's info on here about it, so you can search it. At least you should be able to get some stuff cheap.

And I know you said you don't want to hem pants, but it's probably one of the best ways to save money. Just put in a few stitches to tack the hem. We do this a lot with waist bands.

So happy!
They make pants with adjustable waist bands in them. So you can get bigger pants that will be long for her and pull in tight in the waist. I know for sure Target and Old Navy carry them. I have to do the same thing with my girl.

Good luck, my wife had the same problem with thing 2 and always ended up hemming her pants. She has only recently been able to find my daughter pants and of all places at Kmart. But my daughter is 13. She wears the plus size petites. So my daughter is short and chunky. I feel your pain. I hope you find something. Try Kmart who knows you might get lucky. They also have layaway still and that helps a lot. Again good luck in your search.

Give Old Navy a try. All their jeans/pants have adjustable waistbands... They MAY come in 'long' sizes as well, I'm not sure. But a few weeks ago all kids jeans were $10.

This sounds goofy..but what about capri pants in the larger size? 6'2 sounds like you have a future model..she can pay you back for tailoring later... :yahoo:

Excellent ideas everyone! Thanks.

Cowgirl, I was planning on hitting up Leprechaun Lilly's. It just surprised me going from 90's one week to 50's the next. I can't very well send her to daycare in shorts and tank tops. I've been alternating the two sets of capri's she has this week. But thanks for the reminder of Leprechaun, I need to mark that date.

Jaie and Nicole, I'm going to check out old navy and see what they have! Thanks.

Buckinrut, I feel your wife's pain :cds: My other two kids were really really skinny and I always had to buy them belts to hold their jeans up. :killingme

Liberty, I considered going the capri route in big sizes. I don't want to set her up looking goofing, so I didn't know if I could pull that off or not. Do you think the capri's will look stupid?

Keep the suggestions rolling, and thanks guys! :buddies:

Try "The Children's Place" their jeans seem to run shorter. Usually they have them on sale as well for like 2/$28.

I haven't been to the mall in years. Does the Children's Place have clothes in bigger sizes? I used to buy a bunch of her baby/toddler clothing from there, but I can't remember seeing anything above a size 3/4T, but maybe because I wasn't looking either.

Yes, they carry sizes up to a 10/12 I believe... And Tina is right, they always have "2 for" sales on everything and great sales!

I did the capri pant route once as well, my daughter short. I found some capris at JC Penneys that had a cuff in them, so once i took the cuff out they were only a little shorter than "pants" but perfect for the kiddo. I would beware though as most capris usually have wider legs and that might look goofy.

Haha well I know I used to do something similar with stretch pants..I'm not sure how jeans would work..though they generally make longer capris for children which could help...plus they would be on sale right now..I cant picture it...maybe next time ur out try it on for size..couldnt hurt I guess..they also have those track pants that zip on the bottem..but finding them around may not be easy..anyway good luck!

They have all kids sizes. I just bought my daughter 10's there last week. They went up to I think a 14.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked out their web site. Looks like I'll be headed to Waldork this weekend :jameo:

They had some really cute stuff on their website. How was the selection in the stores?

My oldest is a beanpole 7 year old and those adjustable waist pants are da bomb.

I hate waldork, I went to Annapolis and there store has a much better selection IMO. But I might be biased as I loathe Waldork....

You seen like you're the Children's Place expert here. After checking out their website, it appears they have girls plus sizes that go down to a size 4. Is this correct do you know? If that's the case, I could go with the girls plus size 7 and they should fit perfectly :yahoo:

I do not know :( I just happened upon them last winter in a search for pants for my kiddo that wouldn't get all ripped up on the bottom...Sorry...
