Bypass password login

Found an old laptop in son's closet that I would like to use but it is password protected and he has no clue what it was. Any way to get past that so I can put it back to factory defaults?

Google bypassing password on old laptop..lot of different ways to do it, dependent on Op Sys.

No clue. I can't even remember how long we have had it. More than 5 but less than 10.

Could be Windows 7 unlikely but possibly XP

I can't even get passed the screen lock which is also password/Pin protected

once you power back up, keep hitting F8

Lucked out and son remembered the password.

Ended up erasing everything off the computer and started fresh. Found out through the anti-virus protection that it hadn't been used since 2017.
