What's the best out there?

I have a motorola surfboard (SB5101 I believe), and it seems like I'm resetting it two or three times a day.

What else is there to choose from?

I have one also and I noticed mine resetting 3 or 4 times a night. It stopped doing it once I split the cable(with a decent splitter) coming into the house and ran a dedicated quality cable directly to my modem. Never had a problem after that(4 plus years).

I did that last night, but wasn't confident as to the 'fix'..

Ours comes in the room and goes through a wall pass through, then to a splitter where one cable goes to the modem and one goes to the Cable box.. I removed the wall pass through as it looked old and cheap.. didn't have to reset it again last night, but wasn't sure that was the problem.

At first I removed the splitter and it seemed to work, but then Tracey wanted to watch TV with Bubba.

Figured every connection you have signal loss, so wanted to get rid of as many connections and pass throughs as I could.

CABLE.. I have all the original cable that Metrocast used.. plus some left over from DriecTV. An issue I didn't think of, I bet it's the cheapest cable they could find.

Make sure on the outside of the house its not split before going to the modem. If it does then take the line from Metro install a 2 way, then go from there right to the modem with one leg of the 2 way. The other should go to another splitter if needed to the TV's in the house. This will fix the prob for you. If you need any help or anything let me know.

Currently using Comcast Aris modem. Once in a while have to reset it. Had a problem a couple of weeks ago and a tech came out. Said Comcast has new modems coming in August or later, much faster. said to call then and request the new one to replace current one. Haven't had a problem since cables in the neighborhood were worked on.

I thought I had resolved it.. didn't work, and I'm sure there is another splitter or two outside the house prior to getting to the cable modem.

I've had to reset 3 times tonight, and by the time I was done composing an e-mail for work it was out again.

Copy n paste this into your browser http://192.168.100.1/ or just click it :)

Its the modems configuration page, click on the SIGNAL tab on the left.

If your Signal To Noise Ratio is higher than like 40db, you could have too many splitters, normal installation is one out and one inside, but you dont need more than that. If you do have more than that call your cable provider and see if they can get it down to 2 splitters or less. GL

I have the same cable modem as the thread starter and have never had any problems, my Signal To Noise Ratio is under 36. That motorola modem is a very good modem.

Also go into the LOGS tab and see what error messages you are getting, they could help in troubleshooting your reset problem when contacting your ISP.
