CABLE NEWS: Apparently, MSNBC is out of the deck

NBC News is making major cuts including moving Hardball and Countdown to CNBC, Releasing most of it's MSNBC on-air talent, moving MSNBC to 30-rock. That move would basically turn MSNBC into the Dateline NBC rerun channel.

They're gonna close several buearu and close off NBC News Channel (the main NBC News production unit for cable and local affiliattes).

They had hardly any viewers. Also, I think I heard that NBC wanted to end their joint venture with Microsoft, the MS in MSNBC. No loss, I watch Fox News, it gives both sides. Even their stock shows on Saturday have left and right. Tivo them to watch when I want.

MSNBC was actually the fastest growing cable news network 3 years in a row. Jeff Zucker has made countless mistakes with NBC News. Starting with the hiring of Meridith Viera (she's almost as bad as Couric). I would have rather them had Alexis Glick over Viera. Also, any original content MSNBC had, Zucker threw on to NBC as a 'Katie Couric Exclusive' even though NBC News or Today played no part in the interview or report. List goes on and on.

I just don't like FOX News, anytime I tune in they're talking about keep the Republicans in power they're the only ones who will protect you the other party will let you die. Nobody in the world can convince me FOX News presents both sides - I just don't see that.

And the 9pm hour in news sucks, you've got Nancy "Beat the dead horse" Grace, That old decrepit hasbeen Larry King and Seam Hannity.

The only reason some folks don’t like Fox is because they have grown so used to hearing the left-biased reporting coming out of CNN, MSNBC, etc… Then when they actually get a counter point of view, no matter how small, they call it bias. I have watched Fox over the years and there are reporters that don’t hide the fact they are from the right; but they equally have reporters from the left AND the center. Folks from the left don’t like that. The guests they have come from all political backgrounds. The typical interview will have both either together or separately. Their motto “Fair and Balanced” is right on. The left doesn’t like hearing the opposing point of view.

And Bavarian… I noticed you singled out Hannity as if it was his show alone. Unlike the left-wing talk-head Larry King, Hannity has a left-wing counterpart called Alan Colmes. Now, why would it be that you left him out of your diatribe?

But it doesn’t matter what I say. The audience speaks for their success. They certainly don’t need me to come to bat for them. Fox has, by far, the largest audience of any other network. There is a reason for that. Could it possibly be because they are just what they say they are (Fair and Balanced) and people appreciate that?

OK what about O'Reilly, Shep, Hemmer, Greta?

And before you refer to MSNBC as liberal, tell me the party that Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough are resigtered with? Which part is Rita Cowsby registered with? Only liberal MSNBC has is KO.

While at it let's break down who the leftists at MSNBC voted for -
Chris Matthews - George Walker Bush
Joe Scarborough - George Walker Bush
Tucker Carlson - George Walker Bush (even though he is against the war)

Who else at MSNBC has independent coverage? KO is the only "liberal" at MSNBC, and I'll admit he does push out a liberal agenda, but he actually uses videotape from Bush's statements and singles out these pieces as a "Special Comment" at the end of the program.

:yeahthat:

If true...this sucks. MSNBC is the only cable news channel I watched, though it looks like the "shows" that I watched (Hardball and Countdown) will still be around...so really, the damage is minimal.

Sounds to me like it's a cost cutting move and a consolidation of assets. I mean...why have 3 seperate news "divisions" (NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC) when you can mash the two cable channels together?

Come to think of it...there was too much air-time given to those "celebrity magazine" type shows. Also, half the times I flipped over to MSNBC to grab a quick news fix, there was John Siegenfelter (or whatever his name is), sporting his William Shatner toupee...blabbing about prison life.

They promoted Dan Abrams in order to try and fix the mess...but I guess it didn't make much difference. His legal show was good, too...until he left it.

Steve Capus said NBC News will try to keep MSNBC alive. I think it's just gonne be more of NBC controlling the station. And NBC's screwed it over enough. :smack:

There are two good things Abrams did and there are two good things NBC did. The first was NBC. They took care of weekend programming. Then they started to air "To Catch a Predator."

Abrams did a good thing in changing the graphics over and putting more emphasis on breaking news. They're coverage of the NY Plane Crash was top-notch.

NBC and Abrams have made too many mistakes: Kristine Johnson, Contessa Brewer, Rita Cowsby, Firing Randy Meier, Repeating Tucker and Hardball, moving Scarborough to 9pm, making Scarborough cover entertainment news, MSNBC Doc-Block. Can I go on?

I've been watching MSNBC for years and won't watch anything else unless it's CNNi or BBC 24

When they had the JonBenet stuff going on it looked like MSNBC turned the corner. And then they decided to only cover JonBenet while the 34-day war was going on.

Way Right!!

Fox gives both sides of what? Their mantra is a joke. Why don't they just own up to what they are. A right leaning broadcast group thats in the Republican Party's pocket. They only kid themselves...no one else.

Heh!!!

I hope they never "admit" to it. It's a frakkin' joke as it is. The more they claim to be "fair and balanced", the more America laughs. Even the Repubs know what a frakkin' joke it is.

"Exclusive" Dick Cheyney interview.

Three nights of "Exclusive" Dubya knob-slobbing from Bill O'Reilly.

Uh-huh.

"Exclusive" invitation to Dubya's "What you will talk about." pep rally at the White House the other day. It's the worst kept secret....ummm...anywhere.

FOXNews is a frakkin' insult. GOP propoganda.

FOX "News": America's Aljazeera

O’Reilly states, quite adamantly, he is an independent; Shep is obviously a right winger; I don’t think you can claim you know what Greta’s or Hemmer’s political affiliation is. Hemmer was a reporter at CNN before going to Fox. Greta’s show is nothing more than a tabloid broadcast to me. I think if you give an honest look at all the reporters at Fox you will see they are well rounded politically, even if you don’t know their exact affiliation.

I’m not just talking about what affiliation the anchor people are. I’m talking about their reporting slant as a network at large. MSNBC is an affiliate of NBC which is most definitely a left wing broadcast conglomerate. They mergered with a French owned (of all anti- American countries) company Vivendi Universals. And we can’t forget about that all-famous Dan Rather, Bush National Guard lie-of-a-story a couple years back.

There’s another indicator that MSNBC is left-leaning. You appear to be left-leaning and seem to despise Fox; yet you find the reporting at MSNBC more to your taste. Doesn’t that tell you something?

You can name names all day long, but it’s about their reporting style and political slant. But, you can’t escape the fact that Fox attracts a larger audience for a reason.

Does that make George Stephanopoulos/ABC right-wing mouthpieces too? They got an interview with Bush too and milked it for all it's worth too...

Ooooo. gee, guess you proved me wrong. :bigwhoop: Nevertheless, Dan Rather represents the left wing bias in the mainstream media that you seem to be able to dispute. Nor can you dispute the reason Fox surpasses all other networks for viewership. All you can do is laugh at my mistake of which network Blather belongs to.
