Clark read the room and figured this was the best way to avoid the nightly mugging she gets on the court. As long as she's getting all the wnba press, she will be a target on the court. Even her own teammates seem slow to come to her aid when she is blatantly fouled. I don't buy the whole, all the rookies get that treatment bs. CC is singled out. We can disagree on the why but at the current rate, she won't last long in the league.

WNBA owner claims Time pick of Caitlin Clark as ‘Athlete of the Year’ could invite racism
On Friday, Washington Mystics owner Sheila Johnson went on CNN to protest Clark’s recognition as the face of a league filled with surly black lesbians that few cared about until the college wunderkind arrived on the scene, drawing national attention to the WNBA and packing venues when her Indiana Fever was the visiting team.
“Why couldn’t they have put the WNBA on that cover and say, ‘The WNBA is the league of the year,’ because of all the talent that we have,” Johnson said during an appearance on CNN Sport.
Really, does anyone care about the WNBA? It's like people thinking women's soccer is a big deal - nobody cares. There are like 10 fans and women's sports is a money loser. The media tards are just trying to make fetch happen.
Ms Johnson's family made their fortune running something called Black Entertainment Television. It's not surprising that she views this with racial overtones. I would suggest that picking Clark for the award is the ultimate bow to DEI. Picking the minority over the majority for the honor of representing the wnba.
