California is set to become the first state to ban discrimination against black people's natural hair styles

The new law would prohibit employers from firing or punishing employees for wearing 'protective hairstyles' such as 'braids, locks, and twists.'

'Hair remains a rampant source of racial discrimination with serious economic and health consequences, especially for black individuals,' the bill states.

'Workplace dress code and grooming policies that prohibit natural hair, including afros, braids, twists, and locks, have a disparate impact on black individuals as these policies are more likely to deter black applicants and burden or punish black employees than any other group,' the bill states.

Is it still “natural “ hair if you bought it or got from grandmas old braided rug?

Does this apply to first responders? Well, the first flash fire will resolve the follicular foliage I reckon.

What is natural about a braid ,twist ,or lock?
Does black hair do this on it's own?
If someone has to braid it , it isn't natural .

I believe what they are saying is anyone can wear their hair any way they want to as long as they grew it and it isn't a wig.
It's ok I suppose , but if some companies want people who look neat and well kempt they are SOL.

I'm trying to think of what that might mean. It appears to be California-speak for something, but I'm not sure exactly what.

Of course we have all seen black professional people with tidy attractive afros, and locks, and other ethnic hair styles. I find it hard to believe that an employer would refuse to hire someone like that based solely on their hair, and am more willing to believe that it's because the individual is a sloppy looking shitbag who is trying to blame his/her lack of employment on racial discrimination.

I mean, I have no doubt that there are one or two racist Neanderthals who ban hair, but I find it hard to believe there are enough of them to provoke legislation. And why would a black person want to work for someone like that anyway?

My final answer is: "Democrats know that they're losing the black vote so they're pandering to try and get those people back on the plantation."

Beat me to it.

Or, as pointed out in the article, like a previous bit of legislation in NYC, keep lawyers in business as they work to shut down businesses with frivolous law suits.

Next we'll see someone trying to codify it at the Federal level by, for example, pushing this on the military.

--- End of line (MCP)
