California fakes it

Legislation that would give domestic partners many of the same legal rights as married couples was sent to the governor's desk Wednesday following a heated Assembly debate in which opponents claimed the bill amounted to gay marriage.
I think "domestic partnership" rights are idiotic. Are they going to grant these same rights to heterosexuals who jump in and out of "domestic arrangements"? Marriage equals a commitment and shacking up doesn't.

Can't we throw Kalifornia out of the union? Just kidding. As the pendulum swings, California may become the most conservative state in the union. :roflmao:

These "domestic partners" will get what they deserve - divorce and alimony payments.
In these United States, everyone who marries recognizes that their bliss may sadly end in divorce and alimony payments. These are part of the 1,049 federal rights, responsibilities, benefits and entitlements contingent upon a marriage license.

We who are fighting for our right to marry realize this and of course will accept it along with everything else.

I have to agree with California on this one. If you are going to allow government agencies and private businesses to extend rights, benefits, and priviledges to married couples, you also need to have those afforded to people who can't marry by law. What I would call poor judgment would be the comments made by the Gays about this being "The Summer of Gay Love." That was pretty stupid.

But, look at the brightside Vrai... laws like this will attract Gays and Lesbians to CA in droves, and cause straight people who don't wish to be a part of "The Summer of Gay Love" to leave. This will cause a severe reduction in the population over time, and more and more homos will get into office, making more and more laws to support homos, resulting in larger homo populations. Eventually their bloodlines will run out due to lack of breeding, AIDS, or both and we'll be rid of them.

I must say, I'm surprised by your attitude. It never occurred to me that you would care about getting "rid" of gay people.

It makes more sense to me that gays just be allowed to marry rather than give rights to everyone who's shacking up. We all know people who shack up with someone new every month. How does that affect "domestic" benefits and such? Can they file joint on their tax returns?

To me, THAT cheapens the concept of "marriage".

Always happy to surprise you Vrai. I am no fan of Gays or Lesbians, in fact I find them quite annoying, whiny, and fairly disgusting. And like other people who I know that have similar traits, yes, I would like to see them die off.

Based on what I read, I don't understand your alarm at short-term relationships gunking up the works. What I read was that CA law requires "couples" to register as domestic partners before they could make use of this new law. I doubt short-term relationship participants will be going to that trouble. It reads like registering as a domestic partner brings about all of the negatives of marriage without any real benefits, so I know I wouldn't be in any hurry to sign up.
