I was stationed at Imperial Beach, North Island, and 32nd Street. Lived in Chula Vista, North Park, East San Diego, Escondido, San Marcos, Carlsbad, Oceanside, and Valley Center.
As a civilian, I was stationed at Pt. Mugu and China Lake/Ridgecrest.
Before I went to work for the Navy, I lived in Los Angeles. Worked all over Glendale, Altedena, Highland Park, Sunland/Tujunga and Pasadena. Lived in Eagle Rock and Highland Park.
I'd like to take a trip just to visit family and friends and some of my old haunts. I haven't been since 2014 for my grandfather's funeral. Haven't vacationed since 2012.
We took a short vacation up in the Point Arenas area years ago. My wife completed a consulting job in Oakland area and she loves SF. We loved it up there. We'd live up there if it wasn't for all the crazy.

That's a hard pass. I tried once. I told the aircrew, "can't do this, departing."
It's not a bad drive.
