Calvert Cliffs question

I'm interested in taking my 3 yr old and 6 yr old over to find shark's teeth.
Is there a lot of walking/hiking involved. Hubby isn't coming and I don't want to be lugging a 3 yr old around by myself if this is the case.

Also, any suggestions on how to make it a fun day would be appreciated. I have never been over there. :yay:

I took my daughter last year when she was 5 and she had to be carried most of the way back. It's a pretty far walk, with a few steeps hills. Getting there isn't too bad b.c she was excited, but getting back stunk!! It's not accessible with a stroller either.

Have you ever been to Elms Beach? It would be very easy for you to take the kids on your own. They have a great playground and you can find arrowheads on the beach:yay: Further up the beach you can find sharks teeth too:yay:

Oh yeah! Go first thing in the morning because that's when everyone else is out looking for artifacts too:lol:

It is a long walk to get from parking to the water and for a small child it seems to last forever. Once you get to the water, the beach isn't really that big. Check around, I think there are other places to find sharks teeth that don't require as much walking. Also, if you haven't taken her to the Calvert Marine Museum they have a lot of stuff for small kids, plus a big sand pit they can search for sharks teeth and the otters are a blast. Have fun whatever you decide to do.

I would recommend Flag Ponds instead. Much easier walk and more beach to explore. Then when you give up on finding any teeth, they can be hard to see, head over to the museum and put the kids in the sandbox.

:howdy: Thanks everybody. I think I'll wait to go until hubby can join us. I'm not about to carry two small children on my back. LOL.

Yes, it's a really long walk for your kids. Try imagine 2 miles long hike one way (red trail to the beach), plenty of insect bites, and no water drinking fountain. Unless you got a baby carrier, water pack, and a very athletic 6 yrs old .

You would have no trouble at Flag Ponds. Have you ever been there?

The Calvert Marine Museum is an excellent recommendation and I would only add that you be careful when near these cliffs as they are pron to sudden collapes. We lost a child several years back from a collapse within the Ranch Club. So have fun but be vigilent.

Flag Ponds is a great place. I take my son there all the time. He's 10 now but I've been taking him there ever since he was 3 or 4. You can find sharks teeth there and there's a nice beach. I get a yearly pass each year which is only $15 and is good till December. We've been there after mating season for the horseshoe crabs and my son found it very interesting. You can go out in the water and it is low a long ways out. And in a week or so there will be rasberries every where. The bushes are on both side of the road going down to the beach. It's a little bit of a hike but my son always found things along the way to check out.
