What happened over in Calvert last night/this morning? I hear a firefighters had to be taken to DC and Baltimore for burns.
TIA

Major house fire in Huntingtown. The injured firefighters were from Dunkirk. PFVFD posted pictures of the fire on their Facebook page. It was pretty bad. :(

We listened til about 2:30am, I heard 2 were flown out and 4 went to Calvert by personal vehicle and 2 to Calvert by ambulance. Then this morning around 5:30am one priority one was driven to med star. I have prayed all night for the firefighters and again this morning. My son volunteers also.

Hope your son is fine and prayin for a speedy recovery for the others.

My thoughts are with those firefighters as well as the family who's house it was. Horrible situation all around, such a nightmare.

I feel awful for the family. Call went out as a chimney fire, then it spread to the attic and then it just went up quick!! Ihate those damn evacuation tones!!

Prayers to the family, Red Cross was at the scene.

They are and will be in my heart and prayers. Keeping an eye out to see if anyone needs anything. You feel so helpless listening to something like that and theres nothing you can do.

Please keep us updated how they are doing.

Just an update to everyone wondering.
9 brothers were transported to local hospitals. The injuries ranged from superficial burns and injuries to major burns and burns to the respiratory tract. Two firefighters were flown from the scene to Washington Hospital Center's burn unit (aka Medstar) as priority one patients. The house was approximately 10,000 square feet. They were dispatched to a chimney fire and arrived on scene with smoke showing from the residence and fire in the attic area. As they were making their searches for the fire, the chimney essentially imploded as was said earlier and collapsed through the house, invoking fresh air to the fire and subsequently causing a near flashover on every floor it fell through. Extreme measures were taken to escape the house, such as diving out windows and busting through walls.
As it stands right now, seven of the nine firefighters have been released. The two that were flown still remain at Washington Hospital Center, with one in serious but stable condition. He was intubated and sedated last night for his pain but today is reportedly conscious and alert. He remains the most serious of all the injuries.

Was there a water supply problem? I didn't see much water being applied in the pics & videos.

Yes there was. The home was in a non-hydrant area, plus the winds blowing off the Patuxent (where the house sits) were at about 20 mph last night. Add to that it's 10,000 sq feet, it makes for a nightmare. They set up a tanker fill area at Huntingtown HS or ES

Son was at hospital this afternoon...both firefighters are doing okay, considering. One is still pretty well sedated.
