This letter from Sarah Simmons, Executive Director, explains it all.
I am happy to share with you today that Calvert Hospice has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Hospice of the Chesapeake. This LOI provides a road map towards our acquisition by Hospice of the Chesapeake, also a not-for-profit organization, following a 45 to 60-day discovery period and a fully executed agreement.
Please rest assured that this decision, made by our Board of Directors with my full support, was a thoughtful and necessary one. Small independent hospices such as ours struggle to operate in the rapidly changing hospice care industry. It has been evident for some time that, as for many hospices of our size, the best possible future for our organization is to join with another likeminded non-profit hospice in order to focus our collective strength on ensuring the highest quality care possible to our patients and their families.
Hospice of the Chesapeake is a regional leader in the fields of hospice care, palliative care, and grief support. Currently, they care for more than 580 hospice patients every day in Anne Arundel, Charles, and Prince George’s Counties and hundreds of palliative care patients and grief support clients. In some ways, more importantly, they bring with them a very similar history of founding by volunteers and grassroots hospice care since 1979.
The Board of Directors and I believe that joining the Hospice of the Chesapeake organization will bring tremendous strength and stability to the care we provide, while simultaneously honoring our roots in Calvert County.
We greatly value the support each of you provide to our patients and their families directly and indirectly. I can assure you that the value we place on those contributions will not be diminished in any way by this new era. I can also assure you that your contributions of time and talent will continue to be vital to the Calvert County community as we undertake this transition.
The Calvert Hospice team and I will work to keep you updated on important milestones as we look to the future of a fully executed agreement, with a target date of mid-June.
Gratefully,
Sarah Simmons, Executive Director
